Resident Evil "7"

I disagree on that. I never even noticed how linear RE4 was because the game was so expertly paced. it's only an issue those who have an issue with it really.

There's also the bigger issue in how we assess exploration on a game environment. But that's a topic for another time.

 

Well most people agree that RE4 was the least deviated of the last 3 main titles (and consequently often considered the less of evils), but it was very different in almost all aspects and did set the stage for the current direction of the series. It is
less of an argument point than 5, 6 because those titles polarized in the direction of making a linear TPS shooter campaign.

I don't know what was asterisked out so I am not sure what you are saying with the second statement. It's not about needing hardcore exploration, but walking through closed off shooter rooms and hallways in a pre-determined path is an extreme inverse of
that. Look at Mass Effect. In both cases, it was an aspect of the series that helped make it unique that was watered down to virtually nothing to attract the pop-shooter crowd while alienating a lot of the pre-existing fanbase.

 

I played and enjoyed all the RE titles in the main series, each having pros and cons, but overall enjoyable experiences.

As for RE7, hopefully they use Revelations as template and add on to it. As much as I love the Co-op campaigns of 5 & 6, the single player of RER was great w/ the addition of Raid Mode being the campaign broken up into co-op maps. So much fun that is.

I also highly enjoy Mercenaries mode and hope they keep that mode.

I would say the best thing to do is totally drop the whole Versus nonsense and focus on a larger Co-op experience. If RE6s Mercs had 4P co-op I'd be playing it a ton more than I already do.

Anyway, I'm glad Capcom isn't abandoning the franchise from the poor reception of RE6.

I think I stand more in the middle on this. But i really was thinking more generally than franchise specifically. Ideally, the old method works with Survival-Horror but RE4 isn't that.

Going off the linearity of the first 3 +CV, I find them justified based on the time they were made and how well it was implemented. RE4 like Pyramid said was so well paced that the linear gameplay in there was unnoticeable simply due to how exhilarating
the game was.

I agree though, I am glad this franchise has not been abandoned. I could see them rebooting it before abandoning it completely. So lets hope a reboot (if necessary) is one that is well done.

hopefully they will fix the multiplayer crash bug that is plagueing 5 6 and rev 2 game is unplayable from a co op aspect and they are doing nothing
