Resetting Gamertags

    Does anyone else think that if people haven't moved their accounts, linked them to the Xbox One, or if they don't have gold for periods of long time the gamertag should become active again

    Currently there is no official word on if/when they will reset any gamertags.

    I'm trying to get a gamertag that isn't taken and says it's reserved. I'm on the phone with customer support and they say it isn't taken and when I went to change it it isn't allowing me. Why would this happen?

    Because despite what support told you it is being used.

    Remember the system see's capital letters the same as lower case letters & doesn't recognise spaces.

    Plus gamertags are used on other services,not just xbox live.

    It's just a case of keeping on checking it every so often to see if it becomes freed up.

    If a gtag is already claim you can't get it even if no one is using it. Wait in case there is a new wave of gtag releases as it happen in May 2016

    Hi,

    Sorry, Microsoft does not accept requests to release gamertags. You'll just need to wait for the gamertag to be released. They don't tell anyone the date or time they will do such a thing because then people will just sit on a gamertag to sell it or something
    of the sort which is not allowed at all. This way it gives everyone an equal chance to get the gamertag when its' released.

    Hi Gamer,

    Unfortunately once a Gamertag is taken it cannot be copied into another account. You may create a similar version for Ex "Killer01 vs K1ller01." and you can use it that way but not the exact same one. Hope this helps.
