Reset resolution doesn't work when updates available

Hi folks - unsure where to post this so I thought I'd do it here.

Basically I couldn't reset my 360's output resolution when I changed cables from component to VGA. Holding RT+Y didn't restart the console. After replugging in the component lead it turns out that when the console booted there was a message that there was
a 'Software update available'. It was this message that appears to be blocking the RT+Y reset! Unplugging my ethernet cable, plugging in the VGA and trying again sorted this.

Sounds like a bug to me so I hope someone from MS is reading! Anyway - hope this helps someone.

Mahjong Has Stop Loading

Mahjong refuses to load on my RT after 11/27. Running 8.1 Beta. Pop up says to get important update but accepting update button takes you to store which tells you no updates are available. I tried to uninstall, which doesn't really work, then trying to
repurchase from store. Store tells me either I don't have latest update, or device is not capable of accepting download. Not really a resolution. What gives? Is application now so buggy it can't determine if updates really are available or what?

Problem downloading latest update.

my console doesn't detect the update even if I hard reset. By mistake I put skip and stay offline and now if I go to the settings it just says No update available even I was prompted when I turned on my xbox.

Try changing your resolution on the TV, if that doesn't work, maybe resetting factory settings on the TV? If that doesn't work then it's your TV, and not the Xbox.

If the hard reset doesn't work try contacting the support forums for the game to see if anyone else has had the issue and found a resolution.

That's good an all but it doesn't allow for what I asked. When selecting the highest quality available, it doesn't use native resolution, but caps at 1920 horizontal resolution, which is still a huge downscaling from my 2560*1080p display.

I guess I'll make the suggestion on the subreddit.

My suggested answer is to watch that thread for a resolution. Doesn't mean it's the fix or the solution by any means. Just means that when the answer is available, it will be provided there.
