"Reserved" Gamertag Issue

Hello,

I have been trying to secure a specific gamertag for about 5-6 years now. When I enter the gamertag, it always says reserved. However, this account does not exist anywhere on Xbox Live, and never has. It has no current owner. It is not inappropriate in any
way. I've alway watched for the "gamertag release batches" and have tried immediately afterwards to see if got released; I never have any luck.

I have already chatted with general Xbox Support, and they are unaware as to why I can't have the gamertag. I am a 10+ year Xbox customer, and I finally want some clear information about how I can obtain this gamertag. The chat reference number is 1357888954.
The person I talked to said that he tagged our conversation with the file to aid in the process.

I don't want to post the name publicly for obvious reasons, so I need to engage in a private conversation about this issue. Please let me know how I can obtain this gamertag.

Reserved Gamertag

I just want to get my old gamer tag back, I was pretty sure it said they'd save it for me

please mind the date you are both replying to a thread from spring of LAST YEAR I am sure the issue has been resolved since then thanks.

If the gamertag is reserved then you will not be able to get it. You will just have to keep checking back to see if/when it is released. There is nothing anyone can do about freeing up a gamertag is it completely controlled by the system.

Also, keep in mind that the tags may also be used in other Microsoft Services.

Exactly what the quote above says is right and if it isn't available then i recommend finding a new gamertag.

Have you tried all variations of included spaces when looking for the gamertag? For example, "DelHimself" does not exist, but I wouldn't be able to change my gamertag to it because "Del Himself" already exists and they would be considered the same.

I'm sorry, but MegaMasterX and MegaMaster X are two different tags, and I get a different message when trying to change my tag to "MegaMaster X".

I called Xbox Support back and am hoping to get some results soon. It's not like I'm trying to take a Gamertag from someone who is actively using it at all.

If it was indeed taken by someone else, wouldn't it show up in search results for Xbox Support's internal tools or on Xbox Live?

It doesn't state that it's unavailable, just that its reserved. I was informed to ask for Enforcement's aid in this by Xbox Support directly.

There is no way to reserve gamertags, as no such specific system exists. All gamertags are on a first-come, first-serve basis. If it has already been taken, you will have to choose another name.

The only way to "reserve" a gamertag is to create a new Microsoft account with that gamertag (if you plan on starting fresh), or pay the fee to change your gamertag on your existing Microsoft account.

Gamertags are released if a user does not log on to their Microsoft account for five straight years, as that is how Microsoft purges inactive accounts from their systems. Some people may not have an Xbox profile, but they still keep their Microsoft account
active through other Microsoft services (email, Office, etc). There is no way to check the remaining time (before termination) of any given account.
