Required update interrupted the Superbowl

I'm in the preview program, and partway through the big game yesterday, I got the full-screen UI for a required system update. The options were to install it, or to go offline.

Happily, I was watching the game from my cable box via the XBox's HDMI-in, so going offline was an acceptable option. Had I been streaming, this would have been a very embarrassing end to the game.

Would it be possible to offer a limited-time deferral of the update, say, no more than 8 hours from the UI appearing? That would be enough to let users finish what they are doing before taking the update.

No, once the season is over after the SuperBowl they release one final roster update and save the future transactions for the next title.

Hi, could you try this please, remove any disc from the drive and power the console off, hold the sync button on the console in and power the console on keeping the sync button held in, it may take a little while but does the console then reach the dashboard

I've had the same issue while playing call of duty zombies, as the games can go on for hours or even days. I've left the game running overnight and came back only to have it close and ask if I'd like to update. Round 106 which probably took over 10 hours
of in game time ruined, not even saved to the leaderboards. Just not I lost a game I've spent probably 7 or 8 hours at because guess what, it's time for an update.

I can't imagime a simpler issue to fix, and I've even called them about it yet here I am, another entire day off wasted. Microsoft simply doesn't care because they won't lose you as a customer over it.

If you interrupt the update process it will corrupt the game and require a re-download

Updates are part of modern computing, you need to set your console power settings to standby if you want them to happen offline

There are certain stages of an update to the OS that require a console restart to proceed.

Pulses of the console power button is an indication of a completion of the download, verification stages and a command to the startup sequence to initiate the update.

Interrupting this process (power pulses) by forcing a shutdown may have detrimental effects.

If you're lucky, all that's needed is a console restart and it should continue to proceed with the downloaded update.

If not, a factory refresh is required.

It all depends on when the process was interrupted by forcing a shutdown (power outage).
