Replacing the thermal paste on Xbox One X

Hello.

My Scorpio Xbox One X has been sounding like a jet engine the past few months and shuts down due to "overheating".

The box itself is fairly cool when the shutdown occurs.

The box is well ventilated and the vents are both clean and clear.

Reading online it seems the thermal paste drying out is a common issue.

What does Microsoft offer in the way of remedying this, or do i need to attempt the fix manually?

I recently opened up my XBox One X to replace my harddrive for an SSD. While I was at it, I replaced the thermal paste. It was pretty much rock solid on my XBox so the heat transfer between the APU and the cooler must have been extremely poor. If you are
comfortable opening it up and replacing the thermal paste, I really recommend you do so.

There are several videos on YouTube that walks you through the process, and the X is really easy to work on.

Thanks for the fast response. Its long out of warranty as it was a day one edition.

I looked at the repair service but it didnt give me a cost which is why i turned here to see if anybody had gone through the same process.

Microsoft will not fix it unless the console has a hardware failure. As for fix manually. That cannot be talked about on these forums, as it against the terms of use.

Please do not attempt to repair the console yourself - this will void the warranty.

Please head to http://devicesupport.microsoft.com/ and sign in with your Microsoft Account. You can then check if your console is still under warranty.

Either way, you'll be able to request a repair/replacement through this website.
