  1. Replacing the internal HDD for my Xbox One S

    Hello,

I would like to replace the internal hard drive for my out of warranty Xbox One S. The reason for this is because my Xbox won't boot up properly and instead brings me to an error screen. After extensive troubleshooting, I have identified the problem as a faulty internal hard drive.

I read somewhere that replacing the HDD with an SSD would cause me to receive a console ban for modifying the system. However, Would I receive the same punishment for replacing it with an HDD? I don't want to spend upwards of 180 dollars sending it to an official repair place just to replace a simple drive.

I just want to be able to play games on it again without having to spend exorbitant prices. Is that too much to ask?

    :)

Hi, TalhaMerchant! thank you for reaching out.

As a fellow gamer, I'm sorry to hear about your console's hard drive.

Unfortunately, we can't assist with any kind of self-repair process, my apologies. My best advice would be to have your console repaired by Microsoft instead.

    • If you want to check your warranty status and/or issue a service order, click on the next link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/devices

Once you have registered your console, click on "See details" and start a service order from the "Device coverage" section.

Additionally, the following text fragments are some examples where hardware modification is mentioned as a reason for ban/suspension. I'll be attaching the links to their respective pages in case you'd like to read them.

Yes,your console would be banned for system tampering.

An external hard drive is your only option.

Xbox One X Won't Install games.

What if i did all my future installs on an External HDD instead? I would just like to replace the HDD internally myself, But Microsoft makes it incredibility difficult to format the drive to work Internally for some reason.
