    Replacing EXTERNAL hard drive

I've been running a 3TB external drive on my XBox One for quite a while as my default installation drive.

It's now showing symptoms of possibly going bad (beeping occasionally, and isn't recognized right away at boot-up sometimes).

I know I'll be having to replace it at some point, which is no problem. What I'm wondering, though, is what we'll actually lose in the process. I imagine that all the games we DL'd from the store are flagged as purchased and we would re-download those somehow.
What about game saves? And we have built a number of custom Halo levels. Would they be gone?

If I manage to get the new drive connected before the current one actually goes belly-up, can I transfer from one to the other somehow?

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    TIA!

    :)

  2. bought a new external 60GB hard drive

I just bought a 60 GB hard drive to replace my old external 20 GB. I am NOT replacing my console just changing the hard drive. My question is .....will I have to transfer licenses or anything if I am simply transferrring all my info to a bigger drive and
    keeping the old system?

  3. my 3.0 usb ports aren't working kinda

It may be your external hard drive. Here's the link to the a troubleshooting article, assuming you haven't already seen it.

Perhaps a better investment would be a new cord for your hard drive? It's uncommon for a cord to break but if it does it can cause some confusing problems. A three terabyte drive most likely has a detachable cord, before replacing the entire hard drive I
would try that first. You can always return the cord.

  4. Replacing EXTERNAL hard drive

Game saves are all backed up to the cloud anyway, and I'm pretty sure that they are saved to the internal hard drive rather than the drive the actual game is saved to.

Also, you can copy games over pretty easily, just find the game in "My Games and Apps" then hit the Menu button (formally the start button) and you can select "manage game". From there you can copy or move the game to another drive.

So you never once thought that the hard drive needing to reformat all the time could be a problem with the hard drive?

You can buy replacement official hard drives for a fraction of the cost of a new console. With the most recent update the 360 also supports external USB hard drives of up to 1tb.

If I were you I'd remove the faulty hard drive you have and either buy an official replacement or a USB external.

Why is my external WD elements not recognized by my xBox One anymore?

Yes, or you can also have the external hard drive replaced.

Discussions about replacing the internal drive are forbidden on these forums. Unlike the PS4, the Xbox One One hard drive is not user replaceable.

There is no need to replace it anyway as that's what external storage support is for.

External Hard Drive Not Recognised By Xbox One S Upon Waking.

    Nevermind.

I took the SSHD out of the enclosure and replaced the hard drive in my PS4 (increasing it's capacity from 500GB to 1TB). Then I took the 1TB external hard drive from my PS4 and made it the external hard drive for my Xbox and no longer have the issue.

It seems it was either the SSHD or the enclosure that didn't seem to quite work right as an external hard drive on the Xbox. Either way problem solved.
