Replacement Xbox 360 HD DVD Setup Disc

Hi there,

I have an HD-DVD drive for my Xbox 360 but have lost the setup disc that came with it. Does anyone know how I go about getting a replacement setup disc? I've tried the online chat but the guy just directed me to the 'Register a device' page and when I enter
the serial number from the HD-DVD drive I get a 'This is not a valid Xbox serial number' error.

Any ideas?

xbox 360 hd dvd player

I need another setup disk that came with the 360 HD DVD player. Any ideas? Is there an app on Xbox Live?

I regret to inform you that Xbox 360 S console cannot play HD DVDs. You still need to have an HD DVD player for you to be able to play HD DVDs. However, Microsoft Xbox does not sell Xbox 360 HD DVD player anymore.

You should no longer need the disc anymore. If I remember correctly, I've moved mine around before and did not need the disc. As long as you're connected to Live, it should update on its own. You may need to insert an HD DVD to make sure it updates.

The 360 does not use HD-DVD's, it uses regular dual-layer DVD's. It had the HD-DVD player add-on years ago, but that tech failed. The X1 could read 360 DVD's just fine, but it wouldn't be able to process the code since it's completely different.

Can you please check other backwards compatible Xbox 360 games (if you have any) and see if they prompt you download.

Call of Duty WW2 is an Xbox One game and as such is on a Blu-ray disc. Mortal Kombat (2011) is an Xbox 360 game and is on a DVD disc. It may surprise you to know, the Xbox One and Series X have different lasers built into the optical drive to enable the reading of different types of discs.

It's possible that the laser that reads Blu-rays is fine, but the laser that reads DVD discs is faulty.

Try a DVD movie disc (not an HD Blu-ray disc). If these also do not play, then the fault is with the drive and you'll need a repair or replacement console.

Xbox 360 titles are on standard DVD discs. They have never been available on HD DVD. The discs themselves are readable just fine by the Xbox One's optical drive.
