I have a xbox one elite thats not playing xbox 360 games. I [...] have even wrwe ad far to replacing the hard drive. It still wont play the games.

What do you mean you were "replacing" the hard drive?

Did you actually open the Xbox One and replaced the built in hard drive? Or did you replace an external USB hard drive?

What Xbox 360 games are you trying to play? Are you using Disc based games, or digital download games?

The all-digital console will only play digital versions of games; it has no disc drive. So you would need to buy a new Xbox One S to replace the current one if your games are disc-based.

I was looking forward to the new xbox one digital edition ,and as its digital download only i was hoping for a bigger hard drive than the one s 1tb

You can only play digital games in the Xbox One S All-digital, which means, games you buy online from the Microsoft Store.

If all the games that your son has are physical format (discs), then it is better to get a normal Xbox One S. You would have to buy the digital version of any game if you want to play it on the Xbox One S All-Digital, regardless if you have the disc or
not.

In case you choose to get an Xbox One S-All Digital, you can transfer all the digital games and apps from your son's console to an external drive, and then just plug it to the new console to play.
