Repeating downloads?

For some reason Far Cry 4 and Grand Theft Auto V keep doing some sort of download. It's happening automatically and seems to occur at least once a month. The downloads seem to take an hour or more per game. I can't tell how large they are since they just
appear in the queue. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and this didn't stop it. I wanted to play GTA tonight but because it's "updating" again I could not play the game. Any idea what is going on and if there is a way to stop it? Thanks.

Some games get title updates regularly to add new features or fix bugs.

Its probably just that. If you are using energy saving mode you will get prompted to download them when you start the game.

If you are using instant on then it normally happens while console is asleep unless you wake the console before its finished.

 

I normally get the download prompts, I prefer it that way. The problem only exists with these two games. Right now Far Cry 4 is stuck at 100% updating and will not let me play. GTA 5 finally finished after about two hours or so.

 

Far Cry 4 just loaded up but it won't allow me to play. It says that it is 32% in installing full game content. I installed the game ages ago. It seems to be reinstalling itself?

 

Have you tried rebooting the console?

Just hold the power button for about 10 seconds until the console fully shuts down and light on power brick turns orange.

Then switch back on.

There is also a restart option in the settings app.

 

Yes I have. I normally do not keep it plugged in. Eventually I was able to play FC4 but it took a while for the "Updating 100%" notification to go away. I really would like to know why this happens in case it's something that I can fix or avoid.

 

When you say you dont keep it plugged in, do you fully shut it down first before unplugging?

I mean do you wait for power brick light to turn orange?

Unplugging while light on power brick is white can corrupt the HDD causing problems.

Most people seem to use instant on mode which means the console never shuts down fully when switched off. If you unplug the machine regularly its best to use energy saving.

If your HDD is corrupt you would need to factory reset the xbox to fix it.

 

I log out then I say Xbox, Turn Off. I don't think that I can turn it on using voice. What setting should I have it set to if I want to manually download game updates and to have it power off completely when I say Xbox, Turn Off? Thanks for your help.

 

I put it on Energy Saver. I am fairly certain that I never turned the power off when the brick was powered on white.
