    Renaming Elite controllers in the Xbox Accessories app is broken


    I have 2 Elite controllers, one named "Xbox" and one named "PC".

    When I open the Xbox Accessories app, now the one named "Xbox" shows as "Xbox Elite Wireless Controller".

    When I go into the options screen for it, nothing is displayed under "Device name:" at the top. If I try and rename the controller, when the mini-keyboard pops up, the name field has "Unnamed" in it. When I type in a name and try and save it, I just go back to the options screen with no name shown under "Device name:" again, and when back out of the options screen, the controller shows under the default name of "Xbox Elite Wireless Controller" again.

    If I choose to update the firmware of the controller, the progress bar will jump to 100% and tell me there's no new firmware available, but at that point, the proper name shows up again for my controller on the main screen, so it shows as "Xbox" again, but if I go into the options screen, it's blank and the problem happens all over again.

    Xbox Elite Controller 2 firmware update

    This is a widespread issue for everyone using the Xbox Accessories App. You can update the Elite controller if you have a physical Xbox console, but the current Xbox Accessories App does not have an option to update an Elite controller. Other Xbox hardware, such as non-elite Xbox controllers or the Xbox Wireless headset do have update UI that works, but the Elite does not show that as an option, possibly because the UI button was replaced with "Rename".

    Refreshing, reinstalling, updating the App or Windows will not fix this issue. Microsoft needs to update the Xbox Accessories App with a fix. That's the only way to solve this issue that Microsoft created.
