Removing hard drive and placing in another console?

I currently have a 360 from 2008 and the disc drive has died.

Is there anything I need to know about using the hard drive in another console?

Am I right in thinking you don't have a hard drive on your Xbox or do you still have the original one you got with it? have you tried clearing your system cache? and removing the hard drive and placing it back in?

Error after update

I was not using someone else's account I just presumed that because I had error 8c020007 that the xbox was linked to another account . I have tried today removing and replacing the hard drive, clearing the cache , reformatting the hard drive, reinstalling
my account, removing and reinstalling updates. Is there anything else I good do

There is actual no chance to replace the harddrive from the old Xbox360 consoles to the new 360 slim devices.

You can only use the Data-Transfer-Kit to move your Savegames etc. from your old console (harddrive) to a new one.

If you get the same type of console as the one you had you can move the hard drive over. If you get the new Slim console you'll need to do the steps above.

Either way make sure you do a License Transfer to the new console.

hmmm....try taking out the hard drive as it may have been not placed right on the console or it is just loose or if that doesn't work try removing hard drive and powering on the console if it works fine then you will need a hard drive repair.

What happens if you boot the console with the hard drive removed?

Could you try configuring a USB memory stick on another console, plug that into the console that has the problem, remove the hard drive and then try to update the console.

When you removed it you made sure it snapped into place by making a click sound?
