Removing credit cards from the console does not work.

Does this also come with a "Cannot retrieve information from XBOX Live"? If that's so I believe this error you are encountering is due to having an expired credit card at one point on your account. You can try to remove the credit card (if for some reason
that doesn't work) please contact XBOX Support for your region and speak with the Billing Department.

Have them first remove that credit card from the account (if it's expired) and then have them add a new credit card and try to add your subscription to your account.

I got this to work by using my PC to log into xbox.com and disabled auto renewal under the "subscriptions" section of my account. I then removed all credit cards from billing and payment. Once there were no longer any credit card data associated to my
xbox live account I then used "youneedpizza m8" suggestion to remove "marketplace system data" from my console and restarted the console. After the console rebooted I went back to my PC and xbox.com to add a credit card back to my account.

The remove credit card option does not work unless you call support to have them do so. Of course, in order to remove the credit card they must also cancel the gold membership. So go right ahead and do that if you choose to.

Your credit card is not on the console, it's on the account. You can remove the credit card by logging on the account on account.microsoft.com, scroll down to payment options, select it, and select manage on the credit card, then select remove card. To add another subscription, purchase an Xbox Live Gold Subscription Gift card from your local or online game retailer. Then redeem it on the account.

If you want to remove a credit card from a xbox live account, try going to billing.microsoft.com and try removing your credit card from there.
