Removed child from family + child XBOX live account cannot be updated + don't see the GOLD ...

Hi,

I recently bought 2 XBOX live gold memberships for my son (I wanted 2 years). His XBOX live WEB account was clearly showing 2 entries. Unfortunately, the XBOX 360 never detected that my son got a GOLD membership.So I thought that I should remove and re-add
his account to the family (on the XBOX). It did not work at all. Now, when I try to link (XBOX 360) my parent account to his I get something like (translated from French): Cannot associate a parent account to an orphaned child account... Error msg "Xbox live
signup server unavailable". Also when I try to look at his XBOX live GOLD memberships or look at anything else in his account on the XBOX live WEB site I get something like (translated from French): "Uh oh... that shouldn't have happened.".

I also try to promote his account on the XBOX 360 to an adult but it does not help.

My own XBOX live GOLD membership (1 year) is working fine. I can also access and look at everything on my XBOX live WEB page.

What should I do now?

At worst I don't mind to re-create an XBOX 360 profile and a XBOX live account (and to link it to my parent account) BUT I DON'T WANT TO LOSE THE 2 YEARS OF MEMBERSHIP.

Xbox one child account doesn't see my live gold membership

Trying to add my child to Xbox one live gold with no success. I removed abd added him from/to the family but his account still doesn't see the Liv e gold .

Any suggestions?

How to Join Xbox LIVE

This is the final step before you start enjoying the most amazing entertainment experience on Xbox LIVE.

The process is free and easy to follow.

You only require an valid email address and a high-speed internet connection.

There are two Membership levels available: Free and Gold. You can read more about what you get with each membership level.

Before proceeding, confirm the following:

If you have a Zune or Games for Windows LIVE account, it means you already have an Xbox LIVE account! All you have to do is to download the account to your Xbox 360 console, sign in and start enjoying the Xbox LIVE experience.

If you have a Microsoft account, you can use it for your Xbox LIVE account.
Note: "Microsoft account" refers to what was formerly "Windows Live ID". It is the email address and password you need to sign into Microsoft services (including Xbox LIVE).

This means that if you already have a Messenger or Hotmail account, you automatically have a Microsoft account.

So, during registration for Xbox LIVE, if you are asked for an email address, enter your Microsoft account.

If you don't have a Microsoft account, you can sign up for a free account on your computer, or during the signing in process for Xbox LIVE.

If you decide to go for Gold Membership, you should have your credit card information ready before proceeding with the process of signing up for Xbox LIVE.

Steps to follow

1) On your controller, press Guide then select Join Xbox LIVE.

2) Follow the instructions on the screen on how to sign up for Xbox LIVE.

Note: Make sure that you enter your correct date of birth when signing up. This will be used to determine whether you get a child account or an adult account. Once the account is created, you cannot change the date of birth.

Join Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack

With the Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack, your family is given four 12-month Gold Memberships for less than the price of two. If you are interested, just select Family Gold on the Subscription selection screen.

No option for Gold Family Pack?

You might be using a child account, or the Gold Family Pack does not apply to your region.

Hey there Colorless! I'm sincerely sorry to hear about the account frustrations! Let's see what we can do to get things sorted.

To start things off: If you're ever in a situation like this again, try running the Network Connection Test on your console. When an account membership is changed from Silver to Gold, it can sometimes take a bit for that change to move through the system. A
way to speed that up is to run the Network Connection Test since it logs you out, pings the server, then logs you back in. That being said, it won't help in this case since the issue has changed somewhat. I just wanted to put that in here for future reference.

Now then, for your current situation I highly suggest getting in touch with phone support. To do that, you can use the
Contact Us page to skip the line and get in touch with an account specialist. They will be able to work through this issue with you and should be able to help find a solution that works for you.

Keep in mind that after the child account is removed, it will not be able to use Xbox Live until they are added to another family account.

I don't know if anyone is still looking for the answer, but here it is:

Sign in to the account you're trying to add to the Xbox Live Family, and go to their Account Settings. You should see an option "Promote Account." Select that, and you'll be able to add that account.

The problem is that you're trying to add someone else's child to your family. You need to "promote" that child back to an adult before adding him/her to your own family.

Put differently: that account was previously a member of a different Xbox Live Family. "Promoting" that account removes it from that Xbox Live Family completely (not just Gold status), allowing you to add it to a new one.

Child accounts are not allowed to remove themselves from the Family without having an adult account remove it for them.

Once the child account graduates to 18 years of age from the birthdate used when the account was created, then that account is no longer a child account but could still be a part of a Family and at that point the account could be removed by itself.

Overview

The primary purpose of creating a family is to make it easier to manage parental controls and online safety for children. You can manage who is in your family from your Xbox One console, or from any Windows 10 device.

Any adult in the family can remove another family member.
Children and teens are prohibited from making this change.
When a child is removed from the family, they will be unable to use the Xbox service until they have been added to another family. See

Adults removed from the family no longer have the ability to manage the child accounts in the family. However, they'll have full rights to their account and will be able to use home console sharing when signed in to the home console.

By any chance is the adult account in charge of the child account on the same Xbox the child uses? Adult accounts can remove child accounts under the Family straight from the Xbox if they are able to sign into the adult account.

There is two ways that MS determines if an account is a child account.

1. DOB on the account when the account is originally setup.

2. If it is in a family as a child account.

Until an account reaches its 18th birthday from the DOB when it was originally setup it is REQUIRED to be in a family as a child account.

It will NOT always graduate to an adult account once it hits 18 sometimes you have to sign into any adult account at account.microsoft.com/family and remove the child account from the family at which point
it will be put into its own family as an adult

Keep in mind that it will allow you to remove the child account from the family even if the DOB is under 18 but the child account will NOT be able to do anything until its added back to a family as a child
account.

So in your situation the first thing I would try and do is sign into the adult account at account.microsoft.com/family and remove the child account from the family and see if that fixes your situation.

Remove yourself from a Gold Family Pack

As a secondary Gold Family Pack member, you can remove yourself from the Gold Family Pack. Removing yourself from the Gold Family Pack downgrades your membership to an Xbox LIVE Free Membership, and you lose access to all Gold Membership features.

If you have a child account, you can remove your account from a Family Pack, however, you’ll have to add another parent account the next time you sign in.
