Remote Purchases, Ready to Install when i boot up.

    Hello,

As the August update brought remote purchases done thought Smartglass or Xbox live webpage, I've run into an issue. Both times when Ive tried this the games are just in a "Ready to Install" state in "My games & apps", when i turn on the Xbox One, and has
    not been downloaded.

This happened when i bought Metro Redux Bundle via the Xbox live store webpage when I was at work. What I was expecting was that the game would download automatically to my Xbox One at home, and be ready installed to play when i turned the Xbox One on. But
instead I found it all the way to the right in the "Games" menu under My games & Apps, in the "Ready to Install" panel. And i had to manually start the downloading/installing before i could play it.

The same happened today, with Warframe. I "bought" it, this time through Smartglass app, and got the same message when successfully "buying" it, that it would automatically download to my Xbox One. When i got home later, same story as with Metro Redux Bundle.

Anyone got similar issues?? Or am I missing something here..

My Xbox One is set to "Instant On" with all options checked.

It got a 3TB external HDD hooked up via USB 3 (Which has its own power supply)

    Connected to internet via WiFi.

    Downloads game updates automatically.

    :)

Remote Downloads: Only Download, no Installation?

Let me ask, exam, what is the percentage for these installs when you start up your console? In the past, I have seen automatic updates which have a "99%" status and says "Ready to Install," which is a bit misleading, because it's really just waiting for
the game to be initialized the first time. When the game is started, it almost instantly finishes the install and boots up. It's possible the remote download of purchases could work the same way.

If, however, your install process takes a LOONG time, like a normal install, this doesn't apply.

  3. Updates

Yea I keep the system on Instant on, the updates usually install when I'm not using it and are already ready to go when I boot it up Remote Purchases, Ready to Install when i boot up. :)

If your hard drive is not set to be on when the console is off then that would be the reason the games could not download (if the hard drive is set is your main one for storage).

Please head on over to Settings to ensure the external drive is set to be on.

Hmm that seems like a possibility.

Yes i use the external as main storage, i have transferred all my games to it, and all new downloads is set to be stored there.

And the option "turn off storage when xbox turned off" (Or what its called) under Instant On settings, is also ticked. But i thought that the Xbox One would just boot it up when it needed to access it? Even when its a background download happening automatically.

It does boot up its internal for the same purpose?

    Anyways, i will try it!

The console won't actually boot up while updating in instant on mode but stay in low power mode. Because of this and the fact that you have the box ticked to turn off storage that may be preventing the items from downloading remotely. Try unchecking that
box to see if it solves the problem.

Yes that seems like a possibility, i will try it and post what the results are.

On a side note, every time i turn my xbox one off, the external hdd spins down aswell. But then after a few seconds, the external disk spins up again. Only to spin down, and as soon as it has done that, it spins back up again. And so on so on like 8-12 times
before it finally spins down and stays in that state.

Also i have noticed that the external hdd spins up at random times, when the XBO is turned off. So i have assumed that the XBO did have control over it, even when in low power mode.

Especially since my external hdd uses its own power supply (which rules out not enough power from the XBO in low power mode to run it.)

But as mentioned above, i will try it and post the results Remote Purchases, Ready to Install when i boot up. :)

  8. Remote Purchases, Ready to Install when i boot up.

I quote myself from this thread:

    forums.xbox.com/.../1826530.aspx

On how the option to turn off the storage with the xbox solves a similar issue for me:

"I think i solved it by unchecking the option for powering down the drive with the xbox.

I did so before but had the suspicion that it was not applied since the external drive still seemed to go to sleep after powering off the xbox so this time I unchecked this option and then did "cold-boot" my xbox by holding the power button for a while.
Since i did that (not sure if this really did the trick or it´s just coincidence) my drive will not go to to sleep when powering off the xbox as configured.

    Now it seems to work."

And my additional thoughts and recoginitions concerning this behaviour:

"I still think this is something some technician at MS may want to look after because I would assume that even with the option enabled background downloading should work by design (powering off the external drive when the xbox is in stand-by in general
but powering it up when it is needed).

I would like it to work that way from a consumer perspective and also think that this is what is intended because when I had the option check the drive woke up while the xbox was in stand-by and downloads were queued but showed a strange behaviour:

The drive started to spin and stopped again.

This happened in a loop and the download was not processed ending up with the "installation stopped" mesage so I think something does not work as intended in this scenario."

Allright, seems like we have a similar issue if not the exact same one.

My games dont get the message "installation stopped", but just moves to the "ready to install" pane.

I will try what both of you suggest, to keep the external drive always on, to see if it solves something.

And i agree that i also think something does not work as intended. I would expect that i could use the instant on power mode together with an external hdd, and that the external hdd would act like the XBO's internal. With that i mean that the XBO should
be able to put the external hdd in and out of sleep if it need to use it, when it is turned off in instant on mode.

I'm having the same problem only I don't have an external hard drive. I'm using the internal one. Is there a solution to this?

I bought a game and a game add-on on the Xbox One smartglass but When I got home I had to, first off, go find it in the store again, and secondly, manually install it onto the system. The purchase went through but it did not install it automatically.

I have my XB1 set to Instant-On with all the boxes checked excluding the "boot to TV" box.

Please if there is a solution, Relay to this.

I'm having the same issue with external hdd 2TB WD (it also have own power supply). I uncheked "turn off storage when xbox turned off", but downloads still not downloading. But if you turn off Xbox, of course i've it on instant mode, and then unplug and
plug back usb from external hdd it starts downloading. This is probably the last of what I can do to starts downloading. I hope they will fix it.

    @ HiidenName7:

As I wrote before unchecking the option to turn off the HDD with the xbox seemed not to take effect for me so I did power cycle my xbox like this:

    support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console

And since I did that the option took effect and my HDD did not go to sleep anymore.

Has anyone figured this out yet?

I have connected a 2tb ext drive powered by the xbox USB. Console set to instant on, unchecked power of storage when console turned off.

I can start to download something to ext drive, then turn my console off, and it will continue to download. When finished my ext drive will power off.

However when I purchase something when both are off via smart glass etc it won't start downloading/power up the ext drive. Yet when I turn it on there is the content sat at ready to install.

    Frustrating to say the least...
