Remote downloading for patches possible?

In theory, the downloadable version could take up less space. It really depends how patching works on the Xbox One.

When you buy a game on disc and you install it, if there's a patch available (which there often is), that's downloaded as well, so you have game install + patch.

When you buy a game as a download, it's possible that the patch is already rolled up into the download.

So, I can't answer your question conclusively, but depending on how patches are handled on the Xbox One, the disc (install + patches) may take up more room than the download (patches already rolled up into the download).
