Releasing Old Gamertags

Hey xbox, I've found hundreds of inactive old gamertags. And I was wondering if you guys could release a lot of them... I've been searching for recycled ones, but I think they are all taken. I personally wanted 'Red' and 'Galaxy'...But I'm not saying you
have to release just those.

What happens to all the old gamertags that aren't being used?

They was releasing old Gamertag(s) last year, until they notice some people was creating accounts, just to sell the tags/accounts. - So my guess is that they stop releasing them.

They were releasing old unused gamertags but people were snatching them up in order to sell on.

Yes,it is very frustrating to see these really cool and oG gamertags go to waste. Releasing them again will be awesome, seeing these awesome tags get some use out of them. Doing this will not guarantee them being taken and put back to waiting,but it will
give them another chance. Please take this post to consideration and thank you=)

Hey guys, they did release old gamertags and people started selling them on Ebay etc. so if they were to do it again there is no way to stop people signing up free accounts for the best one and we're back in the same situation.

If you can think of a way that gamertags could be released to the community that gives everyone a fair chance and stops the issue of people reserving to sell, I'd suggest posting the idea at the feedback site where it will at least get seen:

Just to add to this..... A few years ago Microsoft did actually release some old expired gamertags for re-use. However, people started taking the old gamertags and selling them to people that wanted the use of the tag. So, Microsoft stopped releasing the
old expired tags.

Some gamertags have been used in the past and are frozen for a period of time - the xbox team is working on releasing some of the old ones from the original xbox. You might get lucky - they release old gamertags once in a while. Also some gamertags you cant
use as they are viewed as offensive.

In this article, Microsoft teases that they may be releasing inactive Gamertags. Is it just false hope?

"Will you be releasing old, inactive Gamertags for use on the Xbox One?

The article is admittedly old, but it is from after they released inactive Gamertags the first time.
