Rebel Galaxy announced for Xbox One

There aren't enough space games on consoles, and by that I mean games where you control a spaceship/s rather than some marine with a puny laser pistol. That situation's about to change this year, with the release of Double Damage Games' Rebel Galaxy.

Rebel Galaxy is an action-packed, swashbuckling space opera. You'll battle pirates, explore anomalies, befriend aliens, scavenge battle wreckage, mine asteroids, and discover artifacts. Choose your path as a roguish do-gooder, crafty space-trader or power-hungry
privateer - or maybe a little of each! Buy larger and more powerful craft with your hard-earned credits, and outfit them with a variety of wicked weapons and defenses. Set in a galaxy of fantastic sights, and secrets to be found, Rebel Galaxy is above all
a space epic of adventure, exploration, and combat.

Release date for Rebel Galaxy for Australia?

    Oh wow...

I thought this had something to do with "Star Wars" and was desperately searching for when this amazing new "Star Wars" game would be available for the XBox ONE.

Now I see it is one an XBox LIVE Arcade title.

I hope it becomes available for you soon. I think Badger has it and has sunk a lot of time into it.

It's ironic really. Australia began it's life as a Penal Colony and even in the 21st Century it's inhabitants are being penalised still by not being give all the games.

    What's the game like?

    Elite? Elite with people? Freelancer?

What would you compare it to?

Kind of like Elite with the side missions, mining, trading etc. to earn money to buy better ships & you can either play as the good guy or the bad guy & there is a separate story line depending on how you play as well as the main story.

    Single player only.

Combat is in the naval style, best comparison would be AC Black Flag but with space ships.

You fire your 2 main/broadside weapons & can program your A.I. turrets to fire at certain enemies, etc.

Release date for Rebel Galaxy for Australia?

So do you see a person that's "you"? Do you interact with characters when you're on the stations etc?

Love Naval Combat style games. Especially "Starfleet Command". Those were amazing before "Legacy" came out and turned massive Space Fleet battles into "dog fights" for the sake of a COD generation.

So is this one more Nicholas Meyer or more Berman Braga?

You don't see your character but there is limited interaction with people on the space stations.

You'll need to talk to certain npc's for your missions, can hire a mercenary to fight along side you & talk to the bar tender for info about bounties, etc.

It is very limited interaction though.

The games more about wizzing about in your ship doing missions.

There's several solar systems to explore & the layout is never the same for each game you start.

The game has a Firefly vibe about it,especially the music.

Like the idea of a "Firefly vibe".

Do you watch "Castle"? For me "Castle" will always be the episode of "Firefly" where Captain Mal has to pretend to be a successful author who occasionally partners with the NYPD.

They have some absolutely hilarious nods to "Firefly" in that series, including an entire episode with Jayne.

Will have to take a closer look at "Rebel Galaxy" if Naruto will let me.

It's a simpler type of space game, not quite as complicated as Elite.

At £15 I certainly got my money's worth.

There are a few vids on youtube you can check out.

^Apparently it's the same old with our rating system, according to the following tweet they have to go through a different rating process for the Xbox that isn't required for PS (which I find a little hard to believe as I would think once a game is rated
in a country it would be the same on any platform):
    twitter.com/.../687400401059078144

Anyway, I was waiting on Oddworlds New & Tasty for months while the other platforms had it so I'm not sure what goes on, also Neverwinter took something like 4 - 5 months to come to our region after it first released on the Xbox One for US ect.

You guys down under do seem to get the short straw on a lot of game releases.

It's not like Rebel Galaxy is violent or has any adult content in it.
