Reinstalling No Mans Sky giving error 0x87e00196 when reaching 0% downloaded.

I tried the partition, it still returned with the same error code. I did a clean boot of windows, and the corruption with the screen flickering immediately came back. When I tried to install NMS in the clean boot (on the partition still) it returned the same error. After reversing the clean boot, the corruption remained.

In this case, I would suggest you to restore your system to a point where you haven't edited the registry.

This option takes your PC back to an earlier point in time, called a system restore point. Restore points are generated when you install a new app or driver, and when you create a restore point manually. Restoring won’t affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made.

- Go to Start > Search and click on Control panel.

- In the Control panel search box, type Recovery.

- Select Recovery > Open system restore.

- In the Restore system files and setting box, select Next.

- Select the restore point that you want to use in the list of results, and then select Scan for affected programs.

- You'll see a list of items that will be deleted if you remove this restore point. If you're OK with the deletions, select Close > Next > Finish.

If there were no restore points available, you could try to use the System File Checker and DISM to repair broken, corrupted or missing system files. Maybe the system reset did not work as expected:

Go to Start > Search for Command Prompt > Right Click > Run as Administrator. Run one command at a time:

sfc /scannow

chkdsk /r

chkdsk /f

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Chkdsk may ask you to restart your computer in order to be able to run. If that's the case, please restart your computer when you can and it will run before Windows starts.

If nothing works and you want to factory reset your computer (but you will lose all files), you could follow the steps RobinsonSilvestre suggested on the thread above, but instead of clicking on "Keep all my files and apps", you would need to choose to remove everything from your PC.

In this case, I think the only option would be to reset Windows. I'm not sure if it's worth it since this issue happens with only one specific game and looks like you already tried it, right? But if you want to try it again:

Please go to Start > Settings (the gear icon) > Update & security > Recovery > Reset this PC. Choose Get started > Keep your files (or, for a full reset, choose to remove everything) > Download from cloud > Follow the instructions.

In this case, I would recommend you to create another partition and try to install the game on this new partition:

- Right-click This PC and select Manage.

- Open Disk Management.

- Select the disk from which you want to make a partition.

- Right-click the Unpartitioned space in the bottom pane and select New Simple Volume.

- Enter the size and click next, and you are done.

Then, on the Xbox App, select this new partition as the default game installation drive:

- Open Xbox app.

- Click the profile menu in the top-right and select the Settings options.

- Open Xbox settings

- Click on General.

- Under the “Game install options” section, select the drive to install games by default.

Also, please try changing the default location for new apps in Windows to this new partition:

- Go to Start (Windows Start) -> Settings -> System -> Storage -> Change where new content is saved (under 'More Storage Settings'). Change the setting "New Apps will install to:" to the drive you want to use.

I ran both commands and they returned that there were no issues and no further action necessary. Installing No Man's still gives the error.
