Registered in Xbox Live to get the free game Dirt Showdown but was Charged all the same!!!

Hi there,

I just registered for Xbox Live Gold to get the free game that is available this month and ends today - Dirt Showdown.

Did the purchase by clicking the button that said "Free with xbox live gold etc" and I just got an email saying that my credit card will be charged for the full price!!

I don't want to pay for the game, that is why I registered in Xbox Gold in the first place! Help me solve this.

yes I have tried buying Dirt Showdown through xbox.com and I received the same message, but now I can't buy Dirt Showdown for free with games with gold.

 

Free games with gold

Hi. I am not able to get the latest free games with gold On my Xbox 360. If I goto the free games icon it shows dirt showdown for R149.00. and not the latest free games however my xbox one has the xbox one free games.

KriptoPT, you are currently showing as a silver (free) member. Did you use a trial for Gold? If so, trials do not actually give you Gold, so you wouldn't get the Games with Gold games for free. If you paid for a gold subscription, it may not have taken effect
yet, so you may wish to contact billing to see about a refund (support.xbox.com/contact-us).

 

I just wanted to add to the above post. If you have recently applied a code from a card and it is not showing on your gamertag then please go to Settings>System>Network and run a Connection Test. If it was a full Gold membership you applied and not a trial
then running that test should make it show faster for you.

I bought a card for 48 hours of Xbox Gold. I used the card code on the website and it was accepted OK.

I then tried to get the game Thief for free for Xbox ONE and was successful, no problem at all. So I proceeded to do the same for the Xbox 360 one - Dirt Showdown. That time I got an email saying I will be charged the full price.

I didn't turn on my Xbox 360 yet as I am not at home - can only do it tomorrow.

 

Ok, there is definitely a bug with Xbox Gold. I was just able to get all the Xbox One free games (Thief, Killer Instinct Ultra and Zheros) and I get a message saying that I can get these for free because I am an Xbox Gold member. When I go to try and get
the Deux Ex it shows me the full price of 14€, even after I click the "free with Xbox gold" link.

This is clearly a bug and I only have hours left in my subscription, so I really need a fast resolution.

 

As said above, trials don't change your account status to gold so you would need a paid gold subscription in order to access things like games with gold. If you're sharing your One with someone else who does have gold, that could be why you were able to
access those games.

 

Hi Smwutches, I didn't use any trial thing. I bought, as in paid with real money, for a 2 day subscription pass to Xbox Gold. I entered the code and the message correctly accepted the card (48 hour xbox gold bla bla accepted message showed up on the website).
I then logged out and logged in and my status was correctly updated to Gold because I was able to get Thief for Xbox One. I then did the same thing to get Dirt Showdown. followed standard procedure and thought everything was Ok ad well, but then I get an email
saying I will be charged for 14.99 for Dirt Showdown.

I don't share any Xbox One or account with anyone.

I then repeated procedure to get the Killer Instinct for Xbox One, and was successful as well. ME. Not another person or shared console. It was always me in the same website doing the same thing.

2 day cards are trial subscriptions, not full gold. Full gold subscriptions on come in 1 month, 3 month, and 12 month subscriptions. Anything smaller than that is a trial and will not change your account status to gold. So yes, you were using a trial. How
you were able to purchase the games on the one, I'm not sure, but you shouldn't have been able to get them for free.

 

These cards are sold just like 1 month, 3 month or 1 year cards. See here:

I don't see a distinction between them.

 

That is not an official Microsoft website. 2 day, 7 day, and 14 day cards are given as trial subscription with games and consoles. They are not full gold subscriptions. They only give you access to some benefits of online multiplayer, not all of the gold
benefits.

 

If you have someone who is using your console as home gold then yes you can purchase games with gold for xbox one only because you are sharing gold on an xbox one this does not carry over on 360
