Region locked content

Hi.

I know every game disc i buy from anywhere at the world it plays because all xbox one games is region free.

But what happened with dlcs?

I leave at Greece(Region 2) and i want to buy a game like destiny from America because i find it at lower price so i want to ask you.

01. The dlc's of the game i must download when i have choose from my xbox one s menu settings -> system -> language & location -> location(The location was the game i buy) and then if i want i must return it at location(Greece)? Does it work the dlcs of
the game?

02. I have try that with some digital games like unravel i buy as Greece location and turn it to United states location and the game plays normally.

So what really happening with dlcs of every game???

Region locked..

you can't get usa region locked content out of region

you can use those ms points for any other content however egypt is not an xbox supported region

mw2 mappacks were never region locked but blackops do contain different content that is region locked

your account region MUST reflect your actual region to download region locked content

having a US account to try and download US content will not work if it is REGION LOCKED

you must be physically inside the us to download the US content for region locked

 

The Xbox One is a region free console so what that means is...

The DLC's will work just fine, you can buy them and switch back to your native region. The same can be done with redeemable codes, so if you buy a code for a game or service for the US, switch your region to the United States and redeem.

As long as you have a valid form of payment you shouldn't run into any issues!

 

So you mean that if I buy one game from America and I want to buy any dlc for that game I must change the locale from Xbox one to America buy some dollar gift card and buy the dlc I want and download it then I can return the locale to greece I am correct?

Not what Im saying at all. Might be some bad explanation on my part.

You can buy the game from America and purchase the DLC from your country. But if the DLC is cheaper like the game you purchased you can switch to America and buy it there.

Gift cards aren't required, but if you ever get ahold of a gift card from a separate country you'll need to switch to that region and redeem it, then you can switch back.

Like I said Xbox One is region free, so games and DLC can be purchased from any form of retail and work perfectly fine no matter what country.

 

The Xbox One is only region free for physical copies of games.Most digital content is now region locked for that very reason.To many people were switching location in order to get cheaper digital content.

Changing your region/location in order to download content from a different region is against the ToU/CoC & could result in enforcement action on your account.

You would need to buy any dlc from your own region.

 

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Wasn't up to date with this info since I never really thought about it or heard anything different.

 

So if we buy a game from different region from that we are it is against the rules?

 

If it's a digital game then yes.

Actual disc copies are fine.

 

from my understanding, region switching to access other content is not illegal, however using false payment information is.

so if you switch to japan to get a free Game With Gold (for example), that should be fine. i believe even a response from Major Nelson said that was ok and would not cause bans on your account.

however if you make up a fake address in Japan (or use a real one that isn't yours) for a credit card, so you can buy something only available in Japan, that is considered fraud, and you could get in trouble.

 

Incorrect.Changing your region/location to get content cheaper or that is not available in your region is classed as marketplace theft & a bannable offence.

 

i would like to hear an official statement on this. there is a HUGE debate that arises every time some regions get a different free GWG from the rest of the world.

in may this statement was made by a user: "I believe there is some sort of mention of this being illegal in the ToS, but many people have given evidence that would prove otherwise like support conversations saying its ok."

the general basis of the debate is: "I see the confusion here. No, changing the region of your account/console is not falsifying anything, as no where in Microsoft's ToS does it state your account or console must be registered to the marketplace of the region

this falls in line with how i understood it: changing regions and downloading free or paid stuff is not techincally a bannable offense, unless you use false information. (or if it is bannable, it rarely ever happens, or doesn't happen anymore?) they allow
you to change your region without really needing prove of a physical move, and that fact that you can change back and forth anytime (no 3 month wait), would indicate they do not expect you to actually have moved residence every time you switch.

but again, this is not a statement of fact, just my interpretation of the rules. some people agree with that, others do not. we need a MR MS or MRS to come in and give the final word, Please?

 

If a region gets a different game offered with games with gold than every other region then it's for a reason,usually licensing or legal reasons.

If a game is not available in your region it's not available for the same reasons.

Changing your region or location to get around these legal reasons is a violation of the ToU/CoC.

It's been this way for as long as there's been a xbox marketplace/store.

certainly i understand your response. but let me ask, if there are regions for a reason, then why are you able to change regions without any sort of verification? you can simply click the little Globe icon in the bottom right corner of any marketplace
webpage, which takes you to
marketplace.xbox.com/.../ChangeLocale

on xbox one you can also easily change your region through the settings, pending a console restart. people are allowed to do this, without having to actually physically change regions. those people then browsing the marketplace may end up stumbling upon
a game that was free, not knowing it was different than what is available in their physical location. does that mean it's the actual "intent"? as in changing for the Purpose of buying from other regions is not allowed, but changing for some other reason
is allowed? are we expected to change region but not buy anything? what would even be the point? if it's a legal issue, then why not restrict the region based on your IP address?

the xbox marketplace has changed many times. MSP became local currency, tied to individual regional "sections" of your account. the 3 month limit on changing regions did not carry over from Xbox 360 to Windows/Xbox One. there's no reason to assume that
the policies did not also change.

i know TA is not an official MS site, despite official MS staff sending customers there for issues with achievements. talking about gamertag sync issues, not people being confused about unlock requirements. we have many forum posts asking for help that
we simply cannot provide, and that PAID MS staff is supposed to handle, rather than turning away to an "unofficial", yet fully integrated into the Xbox One OS, 3rd party site.

we are achievement hunters, so some of us like to play any games we can get a hold of. even the same game multiple times for stackable achievements. however we also try to follow the rules, it's just that no one can agree upon the correct interpretation.
this is why i , again, request an official word from with an "Official Staff" icon under their forum "card", rather than an Ambassador. (interestingly i just noticed my Ambassador status was finally revoked, lol)
