BRIEF INFO ABOUT My A/c--->

Account Region: India (migrated from US to India 3 months ago)

Physical Region: India

Console: NTSC (purchased from US)

Payment Info: Reflects Indian CC info on the Xbox a/c and on the console

Billing Address: Reflects the correct indian address on the Xbox a/c and on the console

Locale on Console: Shows India

Problem: Unable to download Gears of War 3 Live Gold x360 Free download either from Console or Xbox Store/Marketplace

Message: "This game region does not match this console. It will not be downloaded"

Contacted Xbox Support (over the chat), tried all options - Clearing system cache, re-downloading profile etc.. But none of the options which they suggested could solve the problem. The Xbox Cust Rep hit a dead end and said he will escalate the issue and also
take it up the issue with the game developers. Created a ticket (# [Mod Removed]).

I had no problems downloading other region-locked games earlier since my a/c has been migrated from US to India 3 months. This is the first time I encountered the problem. I am not sure if it is account/region settings issue or game specific problem.

Would appreciate if anyone has any further inputs/info or workarounds which can help resolve this problem.

I have a similar problem downloading this game except I am trying from X360 console (and also tried from marketplace/xbox store). Here is my situation -

One of the users (ngocphi) has earlier suggested that GoW3 requires Account Region-Physical Region-Console Region to match for it to download. However the Xbox Support Rep contradicted this saying that Console Region matters only for Disc games and for digital
content (i.e Live Gold games) it only checks for Account Region and Physical region match (without any consideration of Console Region - NTSC/PAL etc..).

Can you please clarify on this issue i.e For some games such as GoW3 (this month's Live Gold free game for X360), does Console Region need to match with my Account/Physical Region? Is that the reason why I am having the problem downloading this game Or is
there some other issue?

I donno why xbox support told you to take it up with the devwloper

Thw answer is right there in the error msg

And cannot be fixed with your current settings

This content isnt comlatiblw with rhe region of your console

Its not looking for your locale

For gears of war to work your account region and actual region and console region has to match

Because you have a ntsc console in a pal region account it is incompatible and there is no way to change it except to buy a pal console

When I mentioned that GoW may work only when account regions-actual region-console region match..the reply which I got from Xbox Support (Nate M) is as follows -

Hmmp, pal or ntsc is for disc games only.

That ruling will not apply on digital games.

So it seems that for digital content/games on demand (downloadable games from Live Gold), one should be able to download the game as long as the actual region and physical region match and console region (ntsc/pal etc) does not matter.

Well as things stand now, we are back to where we began. Support has updated my ticket and will look into the issue further. Hopefully they will come-up with a resolution before month-end (so that I can grab this game before it expires).

 

Nope there are cases where the console region does actually play into it

Darksiders gta and gears and halo

And it does also apply to digital games

It started with gta specifically by rockstar to keep people from getting certain games that was free in some regions but not in others vs vpn checks

Thebonly way you can get this game is to match your console region to your actual region along with account region etc

Therrle is no way that xbox support cna remotiely change your console to be compatible

This is why you need the console for incompatibility check and as you saw with thr error it does check with it

Region of a console is hardcoded into a console only xbox ones are region free but even themnbecause you need to pulass the compatibility check you still need an compatible console

 

Weird an support person doesnt know this because this isnt thebonly game that checks digitally for compatibility
