Region free games??? Purchase xbox in one country and buy games in another country.

If I purchase an Xbox one in Ireland, can I use games that are physically purchased in US or UAE? (not downloads)

I was previously told that when I bought my Xbox one that it is region free and so will play any games from around the world, But my sister just bought the Xbox one herself in Ireland and was told that only games in Ireland will work. Can someone please
clarify on this? thanks

Hello,

You can purchase your Xbox One console from any eligible country, and it will work just fine. You will be able to connect to Xbox LIVE and do whatever else you'd like to do with one exception. Since your region isn't an official launch country you'd need to
wait until it's added before you'd be able to purchase digital content. Purchasing content meant for another country will cause you problems. You can however, purchase disc based games from any country you wish to and they will work on that console without
a problem as all games on discs are region free.

Once your region is added to the Xbox One line up you should have no issues at all and you should then be able to purchase anything on the marketplace that's available in your own country.

I bought my console here in Ireland and I had minecraft sent over from the States as a gift and it worked. I'm not sure about other games but that guy that said only games from Ireland will work is wrong. Region free is region free.

Also don't buy your games in ireland. They are too expensive. I buy them from simplygames.com in the UK and they are 50% cheaper than Gamestop.

All physical games on Xbox One are region-free. You'll be fine buying games from elsewhere, although language may change depending on where you buy the game.

Even download codes should be region-free. As long as the game is available in your region's Store you should be able to redeem the code and download the content.

Keep in mind it would be your localized copy not whatever you bought it from

So Mexican account will download a Mexican copy

For the best experience with live your physical region must match your actual region

Thanks all for your answers. I'm hoping if I buy the games in Dubai and ship to my sister in Ireland they'll work. Im pretty confident they will based on what I was told when I purchased my own xbox one and on games Ive used with it that werent all bought
here in UAE.

This seems no longer to be true.

Games purchased from other regions will play if physical disk, but any connected download codes will not work.

There are issues for example with the Gears of War 1-3 codes (included with Gears of War collection) and the Fallout 3 codes (that came with Fallout 4).
