  1. Regarding the DDoS Attack

    Hello again, forum!

As everyone is already aware, several nights ago the self-proclaimed hacker group Lizard Squad apparently took down Xbox Live for many North American users by sending massive loads of data and info to the servers, causing the systems and networks to 'force-stop'
their operations, otherwise known as a DDoS attack. While the only obvious consequence was 2-3 hours of disconnection, the dirtbags then took to Twitter and claimed more havoc was on our way as Christmas is approaching.

I'm well aware that a DDoS attack poses no threat to user accounts, due to the fact a DDoS is sending data, not retrieving it after a hack. And even if GizzardLauds (what I refer to them as) even managed to gain access to my account, they'd literally get
nothing but $0.50. I have no credit cards or PayPal, nor is there any confidential material in the e-mail account I use my Microsoft account for. So I do not worry to much.

However, I DO worry about the several other millions of users who face possible frauds, credit thefts, and the fact that when Christmas comes, thousands of dollars will be poured or have been poured into Xbox related services and products, most notably Gold
accounts and consoles/games. You can say I'm being riduculous for worrying outside of my personal boundries, but the thought of that money and the untold number of upset cutomers who would breathe fire towards Xbox and Microsoft is terrifying. To add to that,
the thought of a bunch of pudgey-fingered Cheeto-munching dillweeds getting off at the idea of lil' Timmy not being able to play Minecraft with his buddies on Christmas day makes my blood boil with resent and hatred. And when it comes to people and their actions,
I'm not one quick to anger.

Microsoft and Xbox will be taking all the blame for what will POSSIBLY (and I say that really strongly) happen when the holidays roll in. Though I do not bow down below the companies whom I obtain service from because of an idea that companies are pure and
holy and can do no wrong, I will feel so bad if they take the heat for this. Xbox has been primarily known for it's games, but secondly for their security. They've never been severely breached before, and I don't expect it to be a breach when Christmas arrives.
It will probably be a large-scale extended DDoS. Or something similar. I don't want a company and franchise who I have come to like and have treated me as a cutomer somewhat fairly to take the blame for not being able to stop a bunch of snot-nosed basement-dwelling
dweebs from either halting Xbox service or compromising the security. It's unfair. It's gross. I honestly want these guys to face retribution for their past actions, before it is too late. Xbox has already been suffering this year. If it faces a trial this
big now, it will be widely resented and face even more hard times, and dare I say this...maybe even possibly fade away.

That all being said, I hoping that both the community and the Xbox development and service teams are working hard to secure Xbox Live, maybe even track down these dirtbags and take 'em out. I've never been fond of or supported hackers, but at least others
in the past had a statement with their attacks, like disagreeing with high content pricing, DLC baiting and other related issues. But these jerks down give two craps about that. They do it just so they can smile behind a LCD screen. Just the thought of that
makes me want to deck them in the face.

(BTW, just a quick cry for help, the attack caused people headaches by resetting or disabling either the wireless functions or even LAN ports of their personal routers. My own router was auto re-named and now has an unknown password that isn't my set password
or the default it came with. I tried resetting it and hard-resetting it, and tried calling Belkin and explaining I have no computer to change it's setting with, but some Turkish guy just kept asking for an operating system type, so I gave up on them. My ISP also
can't do squat about it. If anyone knows how they can help me with that, it'd be awesome. Thanks.)

    :)

    Hi there,

this is likely to be cause by a DDoS attack, best thing to do is to report this via the tools on the console so Enforcement Team is able to take action where needed. Keep in mind that this might take some time.

After that please also see this link regarding DDoS attacks and what you can do to stop/prevent it from happening: FAQs About DoS and DDoS Attacks on Xbox One

    Hi Cory,

Thanks for reaching out to us in regards to this. If you think you've experienced a DoS or DDoS attack, we recommend that you reset your Internet router and contact your Internet service provider (ISP). As mentioned also by
Smwutches : If you know who initiated the DoS or DDoS attack, you may also want to submit a player review to Xbox Live and avoid the attacker in the future.

Also we recommend for you to go over our article 'Dos and DDoS attacks on Xbox One FAQ' for more information.

Is there any process to report a "boot" to any authorities?

"Boots" are done via Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, and are illegal in basically all countries.

Therefore the process to report such an DDoS attack would be to contact your ISP, as they can check their logfiles about the attack.

Then contact your local police and have them work with the ISP to determine the source of the DDoS attack and take the necessary steps.
