Regarding backup payments

Hi,

want to check if i have $10 in my microsoft account and would like to purchase something $11, will all the $11 come from my backup payment method or only $1?

You don't really have to buy it !

If you click on buy you will be asked how you want to pay it. If you have credits on your account it will always show first.

If you really buy it, then it will take the 10$ plus 1$.

If there is no backup payment method there will be no option for auto-renewal, Laurens.

For me, I am required to have a backup payment method even with redeeming a subscription code. There are no official announcements regarding changes, but a backup payment method is required for the auto-renewal to be turned on.

If you're looking forward to redeeming a code again, you can definitely do so, it will just stack up.

Just a friendly reminder though that purchasing a subscription will require us a backup payment method such as Credit Card, or PayPal. This means that the your funds will be used but we still need a backup payment method for the transaction to be successful.

Try using another payment option just as a backup plan, you won't be charged through it. Sometimes it is necessary to have a backup payment instrument and the payment cannot go through with the Microsoft balance selected on its own.

You need a backup credit card or payment, not only the $1, so if you don't cancel, MS needs to be sure they can take money from the backup payment
