Refuses to play games without a network connection

    Hi

I'm new to xBox after previously owing Sony consoles. I'm pretty computer savvy, but have struggled with the xBox One since I purchased it. We have 4 games (most are my 9 year old daughter's : Dance, Zoo Owner, Rayman, Forza) and I figured that any of the
games could be played at any stage, given that we own the discs. The games have been loaded onto the console's hard-drive. The console normally operates in a house with a Wi-Fi network, however recently we took it away to a holiday house with no
network at all. Only one game would work (Rayman) - every other game would demand a network connection upon inserting the disc and trying to play the game. Whilst away in the 'no network house' I tried playing around with options such as requesting
that a given game 'resume installation' (I didn't know it hadn't completed!?!) but that didn't help. In the end I gave up and could only play Rayman. When I returned home, I tried to 'resume installation' on the installed games and some worked - others still
have the 'resume installation' option available. The games all seemed to work (although I have to insert the disc - I think that's because I don't have an xBox Live membership - correct?!?) but as soon as I disconnected the console from the Wi-Fi network,
    the problems returned...

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

    Matthew

PS - today I updated the console so it's fully up to date.

    :)

Xbox One X - No Network when Waking from Instant-On

    Good evening!

Recently, when my Xbox One X is turned off and then wakes up when in instant-on mode, it refuses to see any WiFi networks and will NOT connect to the Internet without a reboot. I can still play games offline, etc, but there is absolutely no way to get the
wireless connection to return without a power cycle. It seems that suddenly, the wireless adapter sees no wireless networks without the power cycle.

Is this a known issue? Bug in the newest system update? I am on the most recent system software.

  3. Xbox One refuses to connect to internet

My Xbox One refuses to connect to the internet, stating that it has detected a wireless network hardware issue. I use a wired connection, but the console refuses to recognize that there is a wired connection. Furthermore, the console was working great yesterday.
    Can anyone help me?

So were you trying to play without a disc? That could cause the errors you described.

Needing a disc is nothing to do with having a Live membership - if you installed the game from disc you always need the disc inserted to play the games, but if you downloaded from the digital Store you don't need any discs.

In addition to Maxen's point, I would also add that the "Resume Installation" notification will appear not just when a game hasn't finished its ORIGINAL install, but also any time an update downloads for that game. When that happens, the installation will
not actually finish until the next time you play the game. (With the new way games install and update, any time there is an update, it overwrites the old files for the game, essentially "re-installing" a newer version over the old one.)

So, in your instance, if, for example, an update to a game downloaded, but you disconnected and went to the holiday home before playing that game again, if I'm not mistaken, the network connection is required to finish downloading and installing the update.
So, the installation could not finish when the game was inserted, because the console couldn't find the network to finish the installation.

Also, if a download was in-progress at the moment you disconnected, that could be another thing to cause that error. The console knew certain games were mid-update, and the installation could not resume until the network was present again.

Not certain if either of these scenarios match exactly, but some thoughts on what could have caused the issue for you!

    Hi Jaymo and Maxen

Thanks very much for your helpful answers. I know understand why I was under the misconception about not requiring a disc to be inserted to play the installed version of that disc. I bit frustrating that it has to be like that, but I do understand why.

I will try playing all the games, and see where that leaves me with regards updates, and whether or not the games will function without a network connection. It does seem rather crazy that I'd basically have to test drive all games without a network connection
being available, prior to transporting the xBox to a destination where there was no network connection.

I find the requirement to have a network connection to even install a game (I'm sure that's correct?!?) is annoying as hell. Today, when the network went down for several hours, and I arrived home with a new game...I couldn't even install it!!! How frustrating
is that? What about people who don't have a network connection? Are they excluded from xBox One ownership? It wasn't like this on the PS2 - not sure if it is on the PS4.

So far, I'm very unimpressed with my first Microsoft console and if it continues to disappoint at this rate, it'll be the last Microsoft console I buy.

With a new game, even if the network is down, you should be able to install it offline and then play it. You won't have any day one patch, if there is one, but the game should still work.

In fact, that's a troubleshooting method for if the installation fails while there IS a network connection.

Glad we could help with the other misconception though.

Random Disconnects from Xbox Live while using Netflix app

To add to my original post...

I can play video games on Xbox Live with no issues, I can play DVD's while connected to Xbox live without being randomly disconnected, I play computer games on the same network with no connection issues, I use a work laptop on the same network that is uber
sensitive to connection instability with no issues.
