Refund on Xbox Live Gold membership

Someone recently gifted me a Xbox Live Gold 1 year membership. When I tried to enter the code, it said that the code wasn’t bought in my region and that I needed to contact the seller to get a valid code. The problem is that the
person who bought it lives really close to me. Maybe 2h far. I don’t understand why it doesn’t work. Can he get a refund?? We tried contacting the xbox support wich never answered. Do someone know what can I do?

Your friend would have to contact whoever he bought it from for a refund. If it was from Xbox, there has been an issue with purchasing today which could also be the cause, but you would need to wait until that clears up to try again. Xbox Live Service Status | Xbox Live Service Outage

days between the date of cancellation and the date their paid Gold membership ends. Cancellation and pro-rata refund requests must be made by 31 August 2014 and require six to eight weeks for processing. Bonus or trial Gold memberships are not eligible for
