That's a good question.

While it's right that you going to the retailer is a good idea, if you already redeemed the code through your account, you won't be able to get it refunded. If you want disc, you'd then have to buy it.

I'd say to maybe hook your console up to another network just for the download of the game.

That way when it's installed it can also install any update as well. Then just take it back home and it should run alright.

You may contact the Official Xbox Support through chat and phone. However, there's no guarantee that you could get the refund knowing that you bought the game yourself. Saying that you did not like it could not be a valid reason for your request to be granted
because all purchased games were not for demos or trial and return.

The only way to exchange something is by returning it and then purchasing what you want. There's not an option to exchange items so you'll have to wait for it to be returned.

You would have to contact the retailer it was purchased from for an exchange. If it was purchased as a gift through the Xbox store, she would need to submit a refund
request and then she would need to purchase a physical copy from a retailer.
