redid my XBOX ONE setup with new soundbar - now game/party chat is through soundbar and I dont ...

I have a Vizio soundbar connected to my TV. I ran the Audio Receiver Setup on the Xbox One and now the X1 powers on/off the soundbar along with my entire TV/DVR system.

As for volume control, if you've ran the Audio Receiver Setup then you can control the Soundbar via either voice commands or the Xbox One Smartglass App (the volume controls on Smartglass will no longer control the TV volume, however, as they'll become dedicated
to the soundbar--I presume the same may be me true for voice commands).

I have tried that. I also tried a couple other things. I disconnected the ONE altogether to separate that from the equation. I changed hdmi input ports. I then, also tried connecting the 360 hdmi directly to the soundbar. None of this works. It seems like
a couple possibilities here. 360 is NOT able to pass audio through hdmi to this soundbar, period. It is able to pass through the optical cable, however. So, either 360 doesn't pass audio through hdmi to this particular soundbar or something is just broken
in my 360. Obviously, it passes audio through hdmi to tv as I get sound that way. So, something between the hdmi signal from 360 to this particular soundbar just doesn't work. I think for my overall setup, I really need the One to connect directly to tv because
this gives the best sound for most of what I'm doing (when one is connected directly to soundbar, then to tv, I get worse sound, so One has to be connected to tv first, then optical to soundbar which prevents me from hooking up 360 optical to soundbar as
I'm not switching out plugs every time I switch systems). So, 360 is simply going through tv speakers now. Not a huge deal, but I'm surprised I can't hook this up the way I had it.

I have both my console and soundbar plugged into my TV. My Xbox One S is connected to HDMI 1 and my soundbar is connected to HDMI 2 (ARC). It's the recommended setup.

It's also the exact same setup as before with my old Xbox One.

Again, with this setup I am not able to get surround sound on the S, which didn't happen with the non-S.

Thanks. I know the soundbar caused some issues, it prevented Dolby Vision content from being displayed.

But the point is I used to get HDR10, and now I don't. Nothing in the setup of the TV has changed, nor on the soundbar. My 4K Blu-Ray player can display HDR10 and HDR10+ content on the TV when passed through the soundbar.

So it;s obviously something to do with the combination of the Xbox and soundbar, but something has change, it used to work and now it doesn't, hence why I think it's an Xbox update. Also when I go into settings, display options, 4k TV there are a lot more
subcategories of what content is and isn't playablew now than there used to b, so obviously something has changed on the Xbox end. I'm just wondering if there's going to be a fix.

The Xbox One X doesn't have a soundcard, in a way a PC would have a Creative Labs SoundBlaster card for example.

The Xbox One does all sound processing on the main CPU so to speak.

However, the clearer sound when you connect the Xbox to your soundbar directly can have other reasons than the "soundcard".

I assume you had your soundbar, TV and console set up like this:

Xbox One Console-->HDMI Cable-->TV-->Optical Cable-->Soundbar.

While the console transmits multi-channel surround to the TV, the TV might only transmit Stereo to the soundbar.

A lot of TVs only forward Stereo Sound through an optical cable, if the video feed comes from an external source. Only "internal" video streams that come from the TV's own tuner or media being played through the TV's USB Media Player will be transmitted
in multichannel audio to the sound bar.

By connecting the Xbox directly to the soundbar, the soundbar will get the original multi-channel sound from the console, instead of the stereo downmix from the TV.

So I assume your setup now looks like this:

Soundbar<-- Optical Cable<-- Xbox One -->HDMI cable--> TV

Right?
