Redeeming gift card & using balance for games

I'm having issues with a gift card that my son was given, I redeemed the balance & can see it in my account but I cant seem to be able to use it to purchase the games he's after either directly online in the MS store via a browser on a desktop nor on the
Xbox itself through the MS store. I get a message saying that account balances cant be used in the specified channel.

Is there something I am missing as it seems unnecessarily convoluted to use?

Xbox Gift Card Balance Not in List of Payment Methods for Xbox 360 Store, but Works Fine with Xbox One Store

Hello,

I am unable to purchase games on the Xbox 360 store using my gift card balance. The gift card balance does not show as an available payment method during checkout. My credit card is the only available method.

However, the gift card balance is available and works fine when purchasing games from the Xbox One store.

Does anyone know why this might be? I couldn't find anything in the forums about this.

How can I equip a gift card amount on the Xbox store ?

Hi guys

I redeemed a gift card for the US Xbox One store to buy Injustice: gods among us, although I
don't live in the US. I managed to redeem the gift card, but each time I try to buy Injustice: gods
among us, which a Xbox 360 backwards compatible game for the Xbox One, it returns me to my
country's Xbox One Store. And when I buy an Xbox One game, I can't select the amount that I
got from the gift card, even though it says so in my profile.
How can I fix this ?

thats not possible Unless this ((GAME)) is Cost more than you Added , If its Gold Membership, You have to Add Back up payment option and Buy it with Microsoft Balance or You should Contact xBOX support at : Contact Us | Xbox Support

If you redeemed your rewards points for a Microsoft gift card or Xbox gift card, the balance should automatically be added to the account balance for the account that redeemed the points. They don't send you a code typically.

You can add as many gift cards to your account balance as you want & then use that balance to buy the game you want.

If you are using Microsoft Rewards then it should just add the amount to your account balance automatically so,for example,you redeem enough rewards for a £10/$10 gift card the that £10/$10 will then be added to your account balance.

That’s really odd
The other option could be purchase a gift card (you can do it using the Xbox website or use a third party store like Walmart, Amazon, etc)
And redeem the gift cards in your account.

After that try purchasing the games and pay with Microsoft balance (the gift card)

Far as I know, there is no limit....if the gift card has been redeemed to your MS Balance, then you can use it

As to remaining balance, yes...for example, I recently bought a game using £10 MS Balance and the remaining £45 was taken from my credit card

There is not a way to transfer an existing balance directly. I'd recommend using the balance to purchase a gift card and redeeming on your account. You could also make the purchase on the family members account as a gift, and gift the content to your account.
