Redeeming Gift Card Codes?

I plan on using Microsoft Rewards to buy a Microsoft Store gift card. I'm pretty sure these work on Xbox 360, but how does it work? Do you redeem the code and the money just goes onto your account? What happens when you go to buy something off of the Marketplace?
Don't they have a selection that says, "Select Payment Type," with things like credit card, PayPal, and redeem code? So, where does the money on the account play in? Will be a separate selection that just lets you pay with the money on the account from the
gift card?

Have not Revived my Rewards

i was redeeming some of my Microsoft rewards points i redeemed 5 $10 gift cards i have only gotten 3 cards in my emails the other 2 cards i have not gotten yet and i really need these last 2 gift cards as i wanna buy this deal thats ending soon

When you redeem a gift code it adds money to your Microsoft account balance. When you make a purchase on the Xbox store it will give you the option of using a credit card/Paypal or using your account balance.

I can't remember exactly how it shows up in the store, but basically yes.
