Redeeming a 12 month card

Does it just add money to your account and then you buy it like other DLCs and such nowaways, or does it add time straight to your account?

Hello. I recently bought an Xbox Live card, and when redeeming it, it recognizes it as a 12 month subscription, but says "Something Went Wrong" when redeeming. Error code: 0x801650C8

Redeeming 12 month prepaid card

I have tried multiple times to redeem 12 months of Xbox Live on my Xbox 360 and get an error code that is 80154007

Gold subscription cards add the subscription directly to your account.

It was a 12 month gold card, I had gamepass before I redeemed the gold card so it should have just added the 12 months to my gamepass

If your son redeems the 12 month gift card, the recurring billing will be paused for 12 months.

So while you can't exchange Gift cards (unless the store where the card was bought takes them back), you could save the money you usually pay for the recurring billing, and buy him something for that in 12 months.

From what you mentioned, you redeemed a 12-month card, so it means you won't be charged month to month till Christmas next year, as you subscribed already to 12 months.
