redeemed code auto-cancelled previous subscription, help needed

Hi guys. My account is a Hong Kong account. Microsoft auto-renewed my gold membership for 1 month on 16 Jul. During the weekend I bought a digital code for 1-year subscription via cdkeys.com. The code seemed to have worked fine and my membership was
extended to 25 Jul, 2017. But then I received a mail from Microsoft stating that I cancelled the previous 1-month auto-renewal of 16 Jul. Anyone had the same problem? Will such prepaid code automatically cancel previous subscriptions? That'll be horrible!

Gold subscription does not except prepaid cards.edit

I use a prepaid card to pay for my subscription but got an error code when trying to update my subscription. I contacted Tech support and apparently they do not accept prepaid Visa's etc. Microsoft I guess relies on the auto-renew featured a bank in for folks that forget to cancel or change subscription. Atleast my opinion. Apparently they need a bank card or credit card. I personaly don't trust banks or credit card companies for that matter. I thought about purchasing a subscription gift card. Yet a am afraid they will ask me for a credit card for auto-renew. If anyone has had this issue or have a work around let me know.

 

Wait so you get 2 free games every month even if you stop paying for Gold??

Yeah, unless something has changed recently, you get to keep your Xbox 360 gold games.

But the Xbox One gold games you need to have an active subscription.

Here's my take on your situation.

Since you have mentioned that you were using an the 1-month XBL Gold subscription which auto-renews. Only the AUTO-RENEW was cancelled since your account detected a Pre-paid code was used and as we all know these pre-paid subscriptions don't auto-renew.

Just to make sure though, you may want to ask our friends from our hotline or chat support to make sure.

Thanks Kristian! Does it mean that when I redeem a Pre-paid code, the auto-renewal period "still left" will be forfeited automatically? And one more thing, I re-checked the mails again. The weird thing is that, the mail stating my auto-renewal cancelled
was in my Gmail inbox, while the other mail stating 1y membership activated successfully was in my hotmail inbox. So this is getting more complex. Will it be possible that I had TWO accounts?! And in what situation will Microsoft send a auto-renewal mail to
my gmail address?

The Auto-renewal ONLY is cancelled but not the remaining days on your current subscription, minoschan. Yes, you'll get two separate emails since these are automated system messages whenever there are changes on your account (purchase, redemption of pre-paid
codes, major account changes). I just want to verify though if you have multiple email account's added under the links below.

If yes, and you see both the Hotmail and Gmail accounts added this would only mean that they're set to get emails from Microsoft.

Also under the 2nd link is the "Change alert options" which will let you choose where emails are sent.
