Redeem Gift Card Trouble

I recently redeemed a $40 Xbox Gift Card. I wanted to use some of the money for V Bucks on Fortnite...

I went onto Fornite which I was prompted with a error message with something along the lines of... "your account does not have Xbox Live Gold, Redeem Now." So I clicked 'Redeem' I was given a free month of XBL Gold but I believe my $40 was put towards future
payments for XBL Gold.

My $40 I redeemed is not a payment option for V Bucks and has been put towards recurring payments for XBL Gold

im having trouble redeeming my gift card and when i try to redeem it , it says sender name and prohibited word

There is a sweepstakes to win a $500 gift card, but you can redeem a gift card straight out. Not everything they have to redeem is for a sweepstakes. You can redeem $3.00, $5.00, and $10.00 Xbox gift cards.

Funds from a Microsoft account balance are not a valid payment method for a gold subscription and would not be held for future payments.

I would suggest that you check on https://account.microsoft.com/services/ and see if the payment method tied to your subscription is your Microsoft credit. There are cases that the Microsoft credit can be tied to the payment option via the official support's
end. There are also cases that Microsoft credits can be used in purchasing recurring Gold subscription.

Once you've seen that the Microsoft credit is the one tied for recurring payment, you may turn off the auto renewal of the subscription by going to on the same page, select Cancel a Microsoft subscription then select on Stop automatic renewal.

In the event that you encountered some errors turning off auto renewal, please contact official support.

Could you please share the complete error message?

This sounds like a possible site issue. Try redeeming the gift card on your account with a different device or web browser. You could also try clearing the cache and cookies in your current browser and trying again.
