Red Light/System Update

I recently downloaded a system update for my Xbox 360. After my console restarted, it could not see my hard drive so I couldn't access ANYTHING. I restarted, the console froze and I got a single red ring. I turned off my 360 and I removed my hard drive and
place it back on. I restarted AGAIN and it went straight to dashboard, again with no memory devices apparently attached.Can someone tell me if that system update just bricked my hard drive?

Hey there Kayotik! I would also suggest doing a manual console update to see if that clears up the issue (support.xbox.com/.../system-update-help)

Red dot of death on Xbox Slim

Are you referring to a blinking red light? That would indicate overheating or improper ventilation. See

here.

Or are you receiving a solid red light or lights?

I dont think the cause was the update, but since you only receive the red dot when the hard drive is attached it seems that the hard drive have failed while receiving that update.

My advise is to request/order a replacement for the hard drive go to
http://myservice.xbox.com

 

I ended up restarting two more times and it finally worked. I hope this doesn't happen again, I wouldn't like having to redo every game I've ever played.

Since it seems,to be working again, my advise is to het a USB flash drive and copy (not move if possible) your save games to that so if it for some reason happens again you at least will have a recent backup of the save games.
