Red dead redemption not compatible

I have no access to internet for my console so i went GameStop and bought red dead redemption platinum hits edition but my xbox just says "game isnt playable here" thinking it might be a problem with the game i went back to the store and bought a brand new
unopen copy that says on the top of the game case xbox 360 & xbox one but still same code. Game isn't playable here. So is it backward compatible for all xbox one systems or what? My system is updated once a month. And is currently up to date. This is the
3rd red dead redemption game i have purchased with no results

I tried to play Red Dead Redemption on my new Xbox One S. I bought the game in used condition at gamestop, then I inserted the disc and the Xbox told that this game is not backward compatible. Red Dead Redemption is definitive backward compatible as it is

I believe for the initial install of the backwards compatible option you need to be connected to the internet to update your console to play it backwards. Try that and hopefully it helps you out.

To use the backwards compatibility program you must be connected to the Live service. Once the disc is inserted, the console will download the update required to make the title compatible.

 

I connected online got the update now everything is great. The confusion came from a "pro" at GameStop who informed me when i bought the game. That i didnt need to be online and there was no update required to play..
