Red Dead Redemption 2 Installation

I pre-orderded RDR2 last week for digital purchase. I knew that we had to wait until Friday (today) to install it to my system, but it says on my console and in storage that it is already installed... I didn't see any installation processes or downloads
that showed me it was installing. I looked everywhere in my storage to see if it was installed and it keeps saying it is. I don't want to uninstall it and potentially lose it (this is the first game I've bought digitally) if that's what happens.

I also don't want to wait until next Friday when we are allowed to play it and find out that it didn't install and that it is some fluky issue.

I can't find anyone else with this issue so if anyone can give advise that would be great!

Hi, is your console power settings set to instant on? If so, then chances are the console automatically downloaded it while it was turned off.

When you look through your storage or if you select "Manage Game & Add-Ons" how much does the file size say is downloaded? The entire game is going to be over 100 GB Rockstar said a little while ago.

Preorders will usually download a little less the 1 GB as somewhat a reserved space in your storage so that once the pre-load is available, it will automatically start downloading if you have Instant-On mode and the option to keep games updated is on, so
it may have downloaded overnight if you have fast internet.

For digital purchases, if you need to uninstall something, you will not lose what you purchased since you now own the game. A license is applied to your account for the game so the servers recognize ownership of the game, allowing you to re-download the
game at anytime.

 

A couple of things ...

First, uninstalling it from your console will not remove it from your account. You'll still own it, and can reinstall it at any time.

Second, to see just how much is installed, highlight RDR2 in My Games & Apps and press the Menu button (the "hamburger" button) on your controller. On the menu that appears, select "Manage game", and it will show you how big the game is. If it's only about
110MB, it's not installed yet.

But as the other Ambassador correctly pointed out, if your console is in instant-on mode and is set to keep games updated, you'll preload the game automatically.

 

Its only 88 GB so thats why i was so skeptical that it downloaded.

No I'd leave it as is. That sounds like it's the full game; I've heard it said it'll be over 100GB, but that could be after future expansions/DLC are released.

 

I would give it a few days before uninstalling and reinstalling. Usually the downloads get sent out in waves. So if the preload is available, it just not have reached you yet.

 

Thanks! I uninstalled it on my lunch break and clicked to re-install so hopefully it'll get done by tomorrow.

 

It became available to preload a few hours ago. The download is 88.15GB. There was no need to delete it and download it again. I know Rockstar said that it'll be over 100GB on Xbox One, but maybe there's a patch to be released between now and release date,
or maybe the install size information has changed.

 

the initial size is 88gb so that is the game downloaded

it might need a day one update but other than that you are good to go
