Red Component not working, video has green tint - Original 360 with Component cables

    MS Support Case #1322270951

Using RGB Component cables on an Original 360 with no HDMI. Colors tinted green. Looks like the red component is shot, right?

It originally happened some months ago. When I jiggled the cable it went back to working until this past weekend. All traces of red disappeared. That made me think it was an issue with the cable being old, so I kept an eye on it. When I connected it
to my new tv it worked fine for about a week or so, then went green again, so I went and bought a used cable. That worked fine for a few days and now the same thing is happening. Jiggling and reconnecting doesn't help this time.

    No error codes.

I've tried restarting while holding the right trigger and the Y button as well. That reset my video to 480p, but didn't correct the color issue.

Also, the cables worked last night, so the problem seems to be intermittent.

This is making me think it's a non-cable hardware issue. Microsoft says that as of last June, they don't really care about Original 360s anymore. I get that they're 10 years old, but that's still a bummer.

    Can anyone give advice?

    :)

    Composite is for SD video.

You need to hook up the 360 to the Component input (red/green/blue). The 360 S does not come with a Component cable, just a composite cable. If you don't have the Component cable, you'll need to buy one.

    Bad quality

"HDMI component" doesn't mean anything with respect to cabling. There is HDMI cabling. There is Component cabling. The two don't mix.

What you're holding up is a Component/Composite cable with a red/green/blue cabling cluster and a yellow/white/red cabling cluster on the other end. My guess is you have the slider on that cable switched to regular video mode. You want it in HDTV mode.

Chances are you have things mis-plugged in the back of your TV.

Get out your flashlight. Get behind your TV. Carefully plug in the red/green/blue cable cluster to the red/green/blue video input on your TV. Find the yellow/red/white cluster. Carefully plug in the white and red cables to the audio input that goes with
    the TV's red/green/blue cluster.

Note that there are two red RCA plugs on the XBOX's Component/Composite cable. Make sure you plug the correct red cable into the TV's video input and the other one into the audio input.

This may or may not help. There is a switch on the part of the cable that plugs into the back of your 360, a toggle switch for TV vs. HDTV. Check the setting on it and ensure it is set to HDTV. If that does not work it could be an issue with the GPU of
the console itself or a loose connection. If everything else works correctly when plugged into component it is probably the console.

It's probably the cable, or the switch in the cable. I'd recommend replacing it. It's unlikely that it's a hardware fault of the 360, but if it was, it would be the port itself, and there would be nothing you can do about that anyway.

  6. Well he did say he already tried buying a new cable and using it and even using a different tv and still has the same thing happen. So it really cant be anything else other then the AV Port on the xbox itself which in that case there isnt anything more you
    can do.

It is most likely something wrong with the connector out of the XBox or there is an issue with the GPU. Have you tried using the composite video (Yellow) instead? Do you still get a green tint with that connector?
