Recycling period?

hey I recently closed an account in January & after 3 months it actually closed on 4/6/18. I want the gamertag on that account that closer but it’s unavailable so I called Microsoft support about the issue & they said the issue is the gamertag has to be
recycled before it’s available again. I really want the gamertag back so I want to know about the recycling period & when is the next one? How long will I have to wait to get my name back?

Nintendo has been recycling games long before Xbox.

The old account with that GT will still exist unless you pay to change the GT on the old account. Accounts cannot be closed or deleted.

Or if you don't log into that previous account for 5 years the GT can be released.

as bowski mentioned either wait the 5 years or do it properly a d change the name to release the name it can however take time before the name is released after you change it

Can anyone else confirm that this is the case?

Windows Live ID support have said that my Windows Live ID is in its recycle period. Does that mean that the Gamertag will be released after this period?

xTye's right.I've been around since xbox live started & the only time i've ever heard of a lifetime xbox live gold membership was when Stallion83 was given one a few months ago..

There also is no time period as to if or when a gamertag would be recycled.

If the gamertag was recycled & someone else has it then there is nothing you can do to get it i'm afraid.

there is no official statement of when and if unavailable/inactive gamertags are recycled and how often etc.

All that is known is that the terms of use were changed in the past to have a requirment to be active within a 5 years period, but there is no statement if that will result in the Gamertags becoming available for others.
