Recovery of an old account from 7 years ago

For starters, I've read through the Microsoft support pages. I realize that it says they can't recover an account that was closed more than 60 days ago and they are supposedly unable to help you recover your account if you can't sign in. I find all of that hard to believe if I'm still able to search the old Xbox account through the Xbox app, and I can clearly see that it still exists.

I'm trying to recover an old Xbox account that my grandparents set up for me years ago with my grandmother's email address. She ended up closing that email address, and I lost access to my account. I have been unable to recover since. I've done all the normal "Forgot password" and account recovery forms that most places make you do, but no dice. It says that the email associated with the account doesn't exist, but as I said before, I can clearly see that the account is still there. I've already spoken to Xbox support, and they said they were going to put me in contact with the Microsoft account recovery team, but I was never contacted. It also doesn't help that whenever I try to get help from Microsoft support, their website just has a bunch of links that run you in a circle and prevent you from talking to an associate.

Hello RareN7General, sorry to hear you're having trouble with your account.

I'm afraid that if your grandmother had closed the account then it's more than likely that you'll not be able to recover it. However, as you say you've already got a reference number going I'd recommend keeping up with the support ticket that you already have in place.

I am a little confused, is this an actively used account or an old account from 6 or 7 years ago? Regardless, 2 Step Authentication is a great way to keep your account secure.

Well if that's true and they delete old accounts after 7 years, both of them should be gone as they were created and last used well over 7 years ago. If the account was gone I'd simply make a new account and take the name again but that's not the case.

If while trying to fill the recovery form you receive a message that your account does not exist anymore, unfortunately you will not be able to recover your account
