Recovering old xbox tag

About 3/4 years ago I was a massive 360 player but after my daughter was born I didn't get much chance to play any ways I have just brought myself a xbox one and want to get my old gamertag back but I put all my information in and its given me a new tag
for some reason. If looked and my old tag is still up (krakum) is there anything I can do to get it back as my new name sucks if I go on my 360 my old profile is there but won't recover now or before I got my one cheers in advance

Sorry you are not able to transfer GS to a new Gamer Tag.

You would be better off recovering the old account with it's email/password.

Gamer tag linked to dead account

Gamer tag is linked to a dead account that I can not get access to-tried recovering password but not enough info for them-(old email that haven't used since created), so told to create a new account which I did. Can't change gamer tag to my old one help
please

are you sure you used the correct email address?

If so then it could be the case that somehow a new xbox live account was created and is on top of the old one, in that case it is best to contact Xbox Support, they are able to check if that is indeed the case and should be able to assist in how to solve
the issue. Since it shouldn't be possible to have two accounts on the same email address.

Could you elaborate a bit more on what exactly is the status of your son's account?

Is the account currently on the console, or are you unable to add the account to your console due to not having enough info? The link provided to you by XBF

Yes they were live accounts that's why they had gamer tags. A few years ago you can set up a gamer tag on the Xbox without the link to a Microsoft account so how do you recover these old gamer tags without a Microsoft account?
