recovering gamertag

So I've called support 3 times now because im trying to recover an ancient gamertag; and unfortunately i have forgotten the email. It seems like basically no one can help me due to the fact that they can't access any account information without an email
or password. Now I've checked every email account I've ever had and I don't see anything related to Xbox except a single payment years ago for Xbox live. I've read that they can ask me security questions to help me recover it as i know a lot of information
regarding the account, but I've yet to have any luck with that strategy and it appears like none of the departments I've called even know if that's a feasable method of recovery. When I call it says I can go to xbox.com/proof to try and recover it but that
link 404s. Also the fact that the account recovery request form doesn't even accept gamertags and only accepts skype names, emails, and phone numbers kind of just throws me in a big circle and leaves my wondering why it seems there's actually no way to recover
gamertags in 2017 no less. Any help is appreciated as I'd like to have my childhood gamertag on my Xbox one.

Live Account over 360 and Xbox One

At the moment if you go to a mates house you can recover your gamertag on their 360, then when you get home you need to recover your gamertag back to your console (unless you use a USB Stick).

I am wondering how it will work with the xboxone? As I dont want to keep recovering my Gamertag everytime I move from my 360 to the xbox one and back again. Will it let you have your account on both machines at the sametime?

Xbox Live and USB sticks

I have multiple Xbox's in my house, and use a USB stick to move my gamertag between consoles all the time. It works brilliantly.



It's quicker than recovering the gamertag. You can play straight away rather than waiting for it to recover.



It's safer than recovering the gamertag. Your gamertag will always be with you, rather than someone else's Xbox, who thinks it would be "funny" to change your Avatar colour to blue.



It's more reliable than recovering the gamertag. If there is a connection problem when recovering the gamertag, you can corrupt the gamertag.
