Recovering a really old xbox account

Hi everybody

So I have a bit of a problem.

I have been an avid xbox user since 2006, on live since 2008 until around two years ago. I have invested a lot of time and money in to Xbox Games, Games with Gold, etc over the years, on both Xbox One and Xbox 360.

A couple of years ago I was burnt out with my Xbox and decided to give Playstation a try. They had so many exclusives I had never played I thought I was missing out.

Now, with the announcement of the Series X, I would love to take my gaming back to Xbox, with the promises of backwards compatibility, and the great game pass deals and titles I can definitely see myself playing Xbox into the next gen.

However I don't have access to my account any more. And I'm finding it impossible to recover. As I was quite young when creating the account I had loads of different emails and passwords I used, the one my Xbox Account was linked too was originally my dads
but i'm sure I switched it at some point.

The problem with the automated recovery system is that I don't believe it helps people who haven't had access to their account for a long time.

For example, it asks for my card details. I can't give them as I have switched banks and cards in that time. It asks for phone numbers, but I have changed phone service providers and numbers also. I can't provide a device ID as I got rid of it when buying
my ps4. I can't provide subjects of emails ive sent as they were from when I was in college and have been using a different email since.

My problem is pretty much that all info they ask me to provide is way in the past. The only thing I know for sure is the Gamertag.

I really dont want to give up hope, but im starting too. I don't think I can build a game library from scratch again, it's expensive and time consuming, especially as an Adult. Is there no way I can provide my passport as ID or something like that to prove
its me?

Any and all help is appreciated, sorry for the wall of text.

This process has to balance protecting your ability to retrieve your own account, and protecting account owners from having their accounts stolen by people claiming to be the owner. Honestly, it's not perfect on either end of that spectrum.

If you're really the legitimate owner, hopefully something in there is able to be recovered. I, for one, still have access to my old college email account, I have financial records going back many years, and I have records of passwords for accounts I haven't
used in a long time. I'm hoping somewhere in there you have a detail that matches up with what they need for account recovery.

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are currently inquiring about how to recover an account that you only have the Gamer tag of.

If using the
Lost Account Solution wizard does not help with recovering your account, and as you have described, filling out the
ACSR form does not work for you, the only other thing that you would be able to do [that does not guarantee that you will recover your account] would be to

Contact Xbox Customer Support as they would have a different set of tools that could potentially assist you with recovering your account.

I'm sorry about any confusion or turmoil this might have caused.

The only thing I could find is the steps in, Reset or recover your Microsoft account where it states

"You will need a working email account that you can access so we can send you information about your request. You can
use any active email account, even one belonging to a friend or relative. Or, if you don’t have another email account that you can access, you can create a temporary outlook.com account for free by selecting
Create one at the Microsoft account sign-in page."

There is nothing anyone in the forums can do. You will have to provide the necessary information to recover the account.

That is a tough one. I actually had the same thing happen to me. My account was created in 2010 and when I first got the Xbox One I created a new account because I couldn't figure out how to log in to my old account. One day I decided to drop the new one
and do what you're trying to do.

Long story short, I was able to get my account back and the only reason was because I remembered what email I ended up using. The funny thing is, back then the email wasn't even mine. In 2010 I just typed whatever and it turned out to be a real address so
went ahead and used it. I ended up doing the whole forgot password and forgot email thing to get the account back. What they did was that I would provide my current email to change the old one and they would make me wait 30 days until I could use the account.
After that I had full access and changed everything around.

Of course the thing to take away from this is that I actually remembered the email and honestly without knowing it, I would have never been able to get my account back. Just know though, once you figure out the email that you used, don't worry about having
access to it. You will just simply have to wait 30 days to get full access to your old Xbox account.
