Recording video off uour computer using xbox

Does anyone know if you can record your computer screen as a video or only screen shots from the console companion?

My name is welcome to the community.

Hello John, by companion you see the captures, but through windows game bar you can capture as video.

Press Botton Windows + G, that bar appears, and then Windows + Alt + R to start a recording.

To answer uour questions, no this is not hte first time I use recording last 30 seconds feature, but my michrophone audio has never been recorded since I started using yhus feature and I hadn't had any updates. I am using windows 11 and I have tried many things to solve this problem invluding microsofts recomended videos.

So I was recording with the xbox game bar and I forgot to stop it and I closed the computer and left it running for an hour. When I opened up the computer, the recording was stopped but I didn't see the recording in my captures. Where did it go and how do I find it?

It may have gotten deleted by accident due to it being turned off it did not save the video file.

Hi,

Sorry but the video, as previously mentioned, will be lost now. The reason being is that the video container format Gamebar uses must finalise the file to complete the recording. This finalising process can only completed when the video recording is stopped in the app.

Should the computer crash or lockup for some reason and stop the recording, then the recorded file won't be finalised and is, unfortunately, lost.

I understand some third party recording applications such as OBS use different methods to record and may not be so susceptible to such issues.

Hi TiberiusOptimus,

Normally, the Activity feed section in the Xbox app shows you all in-game activities, recorded games, and achievements that you unlocked. If you're using the Xbox app on your phone, it will not show that you're watching videos from the
Youtube app or from other apps. The same goes if you're watching videos from your computer unless you recorded it using the Game DVR feature in the Xbox app. Any video clips recorded using the Game DVR will show up in the Activity feed section.
