Record game play & voice at the cheapest cost

My son (aged 10) would like to record his game play and upload it to You Tube to share with his friends.

I have looked at several capture card devices but they all seem to need to be connected to a PC at the time of recording. The PC is not in his bedroom but about 10 metres away in the spare room next door, which would mean he would record his game footage
and his voice and then take from his bedroom and plug it into the PC, so he can edit and upload to You Tube.

I could run a USB extension lead direct from his bedroom xbox to the PC (at the risk of family tripping over) if this provided a cheap option to record direct to the PC BUT I also have a spare external hard drive which I could put next to his xbox if this
provides an option

Any suggestions would be gratefully received as my son is driving me mad with this one and whats something for his birthday in July

Add Feature audio recording for game clips.

WHAT?!?! No automatic voice over recording????
To my surprise, I found game clips don't record audio. On the PS4, I can either record game play and the voice over records automatically or hit the "record that" to save X number of minutes/seconds of game play and it saves the game play
WITH the voice over to my clips tab thingy.

Sooooooo, why does the Xbox One not record a voice over at the same time as recording/saving a clip? That seem like an obvious feature every console would have. Like, come on people! If some one doesn't want to record their voice at the same time as
recording/saving game play, have a switch to shut of voice sharing while recording!

I trust something is in the works, but this feature should have been available at launch.

If I'm totally out to lunch and there is a way to simultaneously record game play
AND audio on my Xbox One, give me a virtual slap across my face and explain to me how to do it!

 

Should a Headset be in w/ every Xbox One ?

Yes. For all it costs them to make the cheap, voice only sets, it would be a nice gesture.

 

Sorry man I don't think there's any other choice but to either get your son a cheap but reliable laptop or computer or to run a giant cable across the hallway. You might be able to fish wire the cable through the walls but that's a little complicated just
to record xbox footage. Our house just got built and they put the Ethernet port on the other side of my room. I didn't get a wireless card for my pc because Ethernet is a lot faster (we get 50 Mbps via Ethernet) so I just run a 12 foot Ethernet cable across
my room. When I'm not using my computer I tuck it out of the way.

Great news Mike.

With the XBox ONE all your son has to do is say "XBox Record That" whenever he does something cool.

The clip is stored on the Upload Studio where he can share it with anyone.
