Receiving this error code 0x80070102.

It doesn't allow me to access the side panel that houses my friends, messages, friends activity, etc. It's rather annoying because I can't accept friends request or anything. I tried looking up the code, but it doesn't exist so it appears to be new to everyone.
Any help would be much appreciated.

So far, the only solution seems to be to do a factory reset of your console.

Before doing this, I would suggest doing a power cycle of your console first. Shut down your console by holding the power button for 10 seconds, then unplug your console. Wait five minutes, plug your console in again, turn it on, and try accessing the sidebar
again.

If this doesn't work and you need to resort to a factory reset, you can do so from the settings menu by selecting "System," then "Console info and updates," then "Restore factory defaults." Note that this will erase all data on the console and that any saves
not synced to the cloud will be lost.

Since settings under the NXOE is on the sidebar, I would also suggest you try signing out of your account and seeing if it works then. I also believe you can still access settings via the menu button on the controller. If all else fails, you can use the
Offline System Update Diagnostic Tool, which you can load into a USB stick from
here.

If you find yourself unable to access the settings menu because you cannot access the sidebar. (Try signing out of your account as what I've found is that this issue is account related. I also believe you can still access settings from the menu button on
the controller)

 

I just wanted to reply that the issue was resolved. Thanks for the help DarkMoofey. The power cycle solved the issue. I did want to mention that doing anything else was impossible. I was unable to access the sign out and side panel altogether. It would just
go dark and freeze, then it would pop up the error message. I'm lucky that the power cycle worked because I think the other options would have been impossible to do because there is no controller shortcuts to access those areas unlike Xbox 360.

 

thanks. all i did was sign out and sign back in and i was fine. when i turn my xbox on im automatically signed in. it kept saying i didnt have xbox live but its connected to my card so i knew that wasnt the case. thanks for the resolution

 

Thanks for posting the work-around.

Since the NXOE update, I have twice had to resort to a power cycle to clear this situation up.

Next time (I would like to think there won't be a next time, but in the past week it's happened twice) I'll attempt to sign out/sign back in, but no menu function that I've tried seems to work.

 

Just to follow up, this problem continues for me. I have changed my console start-up from instant-on to power-saving mode to see if that will stop this from happening. I'm not happy about having to do that, but it's better than having a non-functioning
console.

I'm very disappointed in the lack of stability of the NXOE.

 

Mmm... well, I'm glad the initial solution worked, but it sucks that it's persistent.

Lemme know if switching to power saving mode helps with the issue over all. It would be something that would help anyone else with this issue in the future.

 

i've just encountered this code, but its unlike what you guys have described.

first it was saying i wasnt connected to xbox live, despite running both network and multiplayer connection test, and they were giving the all clear. so i turned it off and on again, and on the boot up (before the home screen, where the xbox symbol is displayed
and it loads) it gave me this code, i hard restarted (unplug power and plug back in) and it keeps giving me this code. i am unable to get past the start up screen. seems this code is a generic code for when the xbox isn't working.

Power cycling is just a fancy way to say to turn your console on and off again, except when we turn the console off we're also trying to get rid of any residual electrical power left in the console by unplugging it for a few minutes. It can be a solution
to some problems but I wouldn't say it resolves absolutely everything.

If it comes down to it though, you may need to factory reset as a last resort.

 

im getting the error code when attempting to sign in. first attempt to sign in is unsuccessful. system allows me to make another attempt. on second attempt screen appears with a frozen buffering.. after a minute, the error message comes up with the code.
contacted xbox suppport and problem could not be resolved...

is there anyway to fix this problem??? trying to avoid factory reset

 

My system started doing pretty much everything mentioned above yesterday.

Still not working and getting worse.

 

After a powercycle (shutting console off and unplugging for ~30 seconds then plugging back in) not working, but upon signing in to xbox.com and getting a message to verify my security information, I was able to sign in.
