Real Names

GG it's kinda the point of a forum to think about it and discus it otherwise I would just google stuff and read.

I was happy because I want custom gamer pics on X1 but now it's not looking good with the privacy settings they are going to use.

I do not like Xbox One showing my real name, in today's world it is really unsafe practice Microsoft should know this. With that dais, how can I take my real name off my Xbox One system when I turn on my system. I use prepaid cards and have stop using
my credit card as I had on my 360. I rather use my secondary name.

You can turn off the ability to share your name. It's an optional feature -
support.xbox.com/.../real-name-sharing

 

I guess they think giving us the ability to use our real names is more of a priority to us, than giving us the ability to send voice messages...like we were able to on the 360.

 

The privacy & gamerpic settings aren't changing at all, bstn. Neither was mentioned as part of the update.

 

Slayers post said that you are going to have the ability to share your real name with friends of friends. The real name system ties in to the custom gamer pics.

If friends of friends where able to see my gamer pic you would have problems.

 

No, bstn, you seem to be lost. On the PS4 custom gamer pics are tied with real names. On the
Xbox One (that is what we're discussing), there was never any mention of custom gamer pics. So no, we are probably not going to get them, at least not in this update. But were they to add this feature in the future, they could tie it to anything
they wanted: they could tie it to your favorites, for example, or to your real name group, or even make it its own thing, where you select who you want to see it.

Back on topic (sort of): I am a little worried about how this will be implemented. It's great for friends who you know from real life, but not so much for people you only know by their gamertag. For example, if when you select this feature your name is the
only thing people see in their friend's list, if GG set it to where I saw his real name, I would have no idea who "Alex Smith" was. This would cause more confusion. So hopefully, they will make it to where both show up when viewing your friends.

i'm not interested in having my real name on Xbox .. it doesnt matter either way but all of my friends are just fine with calling me .

 

I'm not going to bother changing my settings, if someone wants to know my first name they can ask me, but I would never give out my surname because of the job I do. I'm happy for those of you who for some strange reason wanted

You are aware that this is a idea that is being borowed from somebody else right? The whole point of real name was to get you to link your FaceBook page to your gaming console. Thats why they let you use your profile pic as your gamer pic. On the system
they borowed this "real names" from they latter updated their app on your phone to let you use any picture but that's the way real names work. Real name Real pic Real you.

I understand that X1 is going to do there own litte tweaks on the system to customize it. But they are copying it which is fine and they should. But they should do it right and let you use your pics. and if they do they have to seperate my friends and the
friends of my friends.

In reality, the term "friends" on Xbox Live is a loose term. XL Friends are for gaming, and not necessarly for beyond that. lol Which doesn't require more info than my Gamertag. However there are a few who know my real name.

 

It's no big secret what my name is. Everyone already calls Lou, Louie, or the Puerto Rican Mohican (24 gave me that name).

 

In all honesty, I don't care who knows my name, I was given it for a reason but if people want to call me by my Gamertag then that's their choice. It's only a name.

I could understand why people in certain specialist jobs may not want their name shown or some people may feel uncomfortable being called it by a stranger but really I can't see how it makes a difference.
