Re: XBoxOne, microphone headsets, mute icon

We can't get the mute icon to go away, we've tried everything...new headphones, new controllers. I've tested the headphones and they are working fine on other devices. Searching, I see this is a reported issue with many people having the same problem,
but I see no fix. Please help!.

Mic appears to be stuck on mute.

Hi, in party there is a setting to mute your microphone, if that is pressed it mutes your microphone without turning the light on the headset on.

Check in your party settings to see if your microphone is muted. If this works for you or if you need more help, post a reply!

I have been on the xb1 today and before I took a temporary break put the xb1 headset on mute when I returned about approx. 15 mins later I cannot now unmute the headset. Can anyone please help ?

Would you mind expanding on the audio issues?

Is there no game audio coming from the headsets? Or is it related to chatting with people?

When you are in a party chat, is there a warning message saying a microphone cannot be found?

Also do your headsets plug in using the 3.5mm headphone jack, or do they have an Xbox headset adapter? When plugged in using a 3.5mm jack there is an additional option that is added listed as "Audio" on the same menu where you go to your settings from the
Xbox Guide. From there make sure the Mic option is switched to "On".

I would recommend fully rebooting the console and doing a
powercycle to troubleshoot the Xbox.

I've seen other tickets on this microsoft site where Microsoft replies with these same questions with no resolutions. I'll answer you questions one by one. I've been researching this for 2 hours now and tried all the recommendations offered in groups and
youtube. The powercycle was the first thing we tried.

THE ONLY "AUDIO" WE CAN FIND IS UNDER, "EASE OF ACCESS". IT SHOWS A BOX THAT SAYS "MONO OPTIONS"...WE CHECKED THAT BUT IT DIDNT WORK EITHER.


Please do not come back with, we have to pay $180 to have the console fixed, I see that's the typical response from Microsoft online.

 

Microsoft better not come back and say I have to pay $180 to send it back and get it fixed, because that's what other people are saying will be your response. I will buy my son a PlayStation instead.

To further troubleshoot your Xbox, I recommend to try a Soft factory reset to clear any corruption and to restore the operating system
to factory defaults, without needing to re-download the games.

To narrow down the problem, I also recommend if possible to try those same controllers and headsets on another Xbox. Since the headset/microphone is not being recognized and no sound can be heard, then it may be related to the 3.5mm connection in the controllers.

Another way to test the input in the controller is to try any other type of headphone that has a 3.5 mm connection like the earbuds you may have for your phone and see if its doing the same thing.

Xbox has a stereo headset that comes with an Xbox One Stereo Headset adapter that plugs into the other connection on the bottom of the controller. Not a 3.5mm connection.

Ultimately, if none of that helps, I suggest going to
Xbox Customer Support to request a callback and speak to one of our agents.

Really? That's your response? Like I said, I've seen many complaints about this. Id rather you say its a known glitch, we dont have a fix yet, instead of wasting my time. Many people have purchased new controllers, new headsets, batteries, to no avail. Its
a known XBOX problem, nothing else. I've done recording tests on laptops and android phones, the headsets work perfectly fine. (all this time I thought it was a TurtleBeach problem, I'm shoked its a Microsoft problem and you have no fixes for this!) Now I
have to go over this all again with Customer Service, to get no answers? Really? Wow.

We only know of known issues when enough users bring it to our attention. On forums we do our best to track users who are posting issues of the exact same nature to then present the issue to those who will be able to confirm it and then act on it.

Sorry but you didnt answer my question - why dont I see an AUDIO option in settings?

 

Also - all you have to do is search "XBOX Mute" button, and a bunch of queries pop up right here in the Microsoft community, some with responses from you, so its a known issue with plenty of complaints right here on the Microsoft's site.

 

You don't see an "Audio" setting in the Xbox Guide because the controllers are not recognizing the headsets using the 3.5 mm connection.

I presented more troubleshooting steps above that you may try, and also presented how to formally report a problem on the Xbox Insider Hub app to Microsoft or how to contact Xbox Customer Support.
