Did Microsoft try to Re-invent the wheel with the XBOX One?

I mean after so many years of ironing out the 360 interface, and they throw the xbox one at us.

wash, rinse, repeat...

I mean this may just be me getting mad about connection problems on titanfall launch day, but this other question has been eating at me for a while.

Hell, I would have been happy with a 360 interface on the xbox one.

Instead of re-inventing the wheels, you can opted for alternate communication like skype, whatsapps or even SMS.

You can also consider getting a decent mic at the bargain bin from your favourite game store.

Sorta agree, not sure why they had to change a system that wasn't broken, it just seems more convoluted But used to it now though.

 

If it could run the xbox one games and have the faster processor and more ram,,, yes, probably

 

I can't say much, I haven't played it in like a month. While waiting on titanfall, been finishing a few 360 games, that were on my list

 

I have to agree with the OP on this. MS in their other product offerings keeps what works in the UI's. Take office for example. Word and Excel have the same navigation. Ever so often after quite a while they upgrade the UI and make tweaks, but they build
on what they had before. Just about everyone has used the menu structure. File, Edit, View, etc. Everyone for years have seen this in both Windows and Office products. Why they didn't choose to do this same approach from the 360 to the X1, I am not quite
sure. Yes the X1 is a newer console and yes more powerful. But you shouldn't just throw what you got from all the years of R&D with regards to the UI of the 360. They should have incorporated more "elements" of the 360's UI into the X1's UI. It's almost
like they reinvented the wheel with the new UI.

I'm not bashing the X1, just curious why they didn't use what was already popular with the 360.

 

I think they just wanted to rebuild the system from the ground up for the features and looks that they thought were great, and were just "to close to the problem" to see it was not as good as the 360 UI.

Just look at the major updates that came for the 360, MS did what they thought would be great and than changed it down the road according to feed back. The X1 will go through the same process

 

I think they should have kept it kind of the same. Also wish they would have worked in a 360 soc so we could get rid of our 360's. I really don't care about backwards compatibility but with all the digital games I own it sure would be nice to use just one
box. Also as far as making it a chore for dev's to make games on why did they need to become the new Cell Processor? So much back tracking this gen. I thought they had a tried and true formula with the 360? All this aside I do love my XB1!

 

OP, SAME THING can be said for the creators of TITANFALL. What a bust IMO.

 

No way I always hated having to shut things down or leave my game to look at the store or movies on the 360. That ability is all that has really changed and I think it's better. But has some growing pains.

 

We all know xboxone as issues it should not of had from day one, Im happy with it, Why have you still got yours

 

Honestly, i dont really mind the interface. I wish we could custimize it though, move, change, groups, sub groups, custom image tiles etc. It has alot of possibilities.

But honestly, they should have had a design contest that xbox owners could vote for. That way you please the community, you get a design for free, everyone is happy.. (well, as close as it can)

 

Why dont you include many other companies and what not that tried to re-invent the wheel?

Phone companies like Apple launching iphone 1,2,3,4,5? Its just a phone ffs..... Samsung with Galaxy series 1,2,3, medium, mini, note or whatever?

Cars, TV's the list is never ending!
